Responsibilities include supporting the collection and maintenance of dam safety, hydrometric, and meteorological data, assisting with monitoring equipment and instrumentation, and contributing to operational decision-making and long-term performance monitoring. The role works closely with Hydro Operations and technical support teams and may provide support to facilities across Alberta and British Columbia.

This is a 6-month temporary, safety sensitive position. The successful candidate will be based at the Ghost Hydro Facility near Cochrane, AB. Travel and field work throughout Alberta and BC will be required. The successful candidate will be required to complete pre-employment testing.

  • Perform routine inspections of dams, hydraulic structures, water management facilities, and associated infrastructure.
  • Operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot monitoring equipment and instrumentation.
  • Support the maintenance of remote weather stations and river gauging stations.
  • Perform data validation, QA/QC reviews, and maintain technical records and databases.
  • Assist with monitoring programs related to high water events, river ice conditions, and environmental monitoring activities.
  • Support survey, site investigation, contractor coordination, and field project activities as required.

ABOUT YOU

  • Currently enrolled in, recently graduated from, or have completed a diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Technology, Water Resources, Hydrology, Environmental Science, Geomatics, Instrumentation Technology, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Candidates with an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant practical experience will also be considered. Exposure to or experience conducting environmental monitoring, hydrometric monitoring, surveying, instrumentation, or related field activities is considered an asset.
  • Relevant experience may be obtained through employment, co-op placements, internships, field schools, academic projects, or other practical experience.
  • Experience operating scientific instruments, electronic loggers, remote monitoring systems, or related field equipment is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel; experience with database software is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately collect, record, and manage technical data.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and technical aptitude.
