THE OPPORTUNITY

The Systems Administrator IV is a member of the enterprise Data Center Services (DCS) team within the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), reporting to the Manager of DCS. The successful applicant will take a role in the support of infrastructure, along with core enterprise systems and services, to ensure they are stable, properly patched and maintained. Responsibilities include participating in projects, including system design, planning, and implementation; developing documentation, procedures, and providing technical assistance on enterprise systems and services; administering resources via a VMware vSphere environment; provisioning and administering both Microsoft Windows and RHEL physical and virtual servers; resource monitoring and capacity planning; troubleshooting system failures and user errors; supporting infrastructure operations, including storage management, Cisco UCS administration, and MDS switching; performing racking, cabling, and power management of servers; managing inventory and capacity for infrastructure components, including storage and compute resources; administering SAN infrastructure and Fiber Channel management; staying current with industry standards, best practices, and new technologies; providing after-hours support for scheduled work when required; providing on-call support on a rotational basis; and performing other related duties as required by operations and project-related work.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Extensive experience (5-7 years) in infrastructure, systems administration and support in an enterprise environment; completion of a degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field is required; or an equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in administration and support of enterprise-level VMware environments, including vSphere, ESXi, and related virtualization technologies. The incumbent must have hands-on experience with storage area networks (SANs), Fiber Channel technologies, and storage systems, including provisioning, capacity management, and performance tuning.. Proficiency in managing unified computer systems including hardware configuration, firmware updates, and troubleshooting (e.g. Cisco UCS), is essential, as well as expertise in data center operations, including server racking, cabling, power management, and inventory control. The ideal candidate will be familiar with enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions and strategies. The candidate must have working knowledge of network infrastructure as it relates to data center operations, including VLANs and IP address management; the ability to collaborate with application teams, database administrators (DBAs), and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and operation of enterprise systems; strong documentation skills to maintain infrastructure diagrams, capacity planning reports, and operational procedures; hands-on experience in managing Linux-based servers (RHEL) in a hybrid on-premises or cloud environment; experience in configuring and managing host-based firewalls, SELinux policies, and secure system operations; excellent analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills. The successful applicant will have excellent communication (written and verbal) and relationship-building skills. Experience in leading or mentoring technical teams, supporting hybrid cloud environments, and staying current with evolving infrastructure technologies would be an asset. Knowledge of MDS switching and connectivity for SAN environments, including zoning and troubleshooting, is preferred

SALARY $66,379 - $86,042 per annum (Management and Professional)
