Context
The Ontario Aboriginal HIV / AIDS Strategy (Oahas) is an Indigenous-led organization committed to promoting and supporting healthy, thriving Indigenous communities through providing culturally grounded education and access to harm reduction to reduce the transmission of HIV and other STBBIs in our communities. Oahas operates based on the principles of Greater Involvement of People living with HIV / AIDS (GIPA), Meaningful Engagement of People living with HIV / AIDS (MEPA), nothing about us without us, Indigenous harm reduction, and respect for our cultural knowledges and teachings. Summary
The Facilitator and Resource Developer collaborates with the Training and Resource Development team to lead capacity-building workshops and professional development training sessions for external organizations, focusing mainly on the ASO and Indigenous health and social services sectors. They also create and implement educational resources and materials. The goals of these workshops, trainings and resources includes minimizing barriers to services, enhancing cultural competency in service delivery, reducing stigma in service delivery settings, and raising awareness and advocacy on the harmful effects of colonialism on Indigenous communities, particularly through the lens of blood-borne infections and pathogens, and the more contemporary and ongoing impacts of harmful drug policies.
This position is located in Sudbury, Ontario, and reports to the Team Supervisor, Training and Resource Development Team, with the following areas of key responsibilities : Community Development & Networking, Facilitation & Education Service Delivery, Resource Development, Distribution & Implementation, and Research & Program Evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
Community Development & Networking
- Attend provincially funded meetings for HIV educators (OAN, CATIE and other sector education networks).
- Develop contacts and networks to procure new clients for Oahas training services.
- Create marketing materials including print and social media content to promote workshops, training, courses, events or programs to potential clients.
