Description de poste

Reporting to the Director of Project Services, the Junior Estimator supports the development of cost estimates for proposal submissions, working under the guidance of the Lead Estimator and Senior Estimating Staff. This is an entry-level role focused on building foundational estimating skills — including quantity takeoffs, cost compilation, and sub-trade pricing coordination — while gaining hands-on exposure to the estimating systems and software used by the team.

The ideal candidate has a foundational understanding of construction estimating principles and a strong willingness to learn all facets of the estimating process, from quantity determination through costing and sub-trade participation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Lead Estimator in preparing estimates, tenders, and other bid documentation (e.g., RFPs, RFQs, RFTs)
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings, with support from senior staff, to help determine scope of work.
  • Prepare estimates for assigned portions of the scope, with oversight from the Lead Estimator.
  • Maintain organized files of working documents and current supplier pricing as backup for estimate figures.
  • Assist in obtaining subcontractor pricing as required.
  • Assist in obtaining material and equipment rental pricing as required.
  • Support consistency and quality of estimates in reports to operations, management, and clients.
  • Learn and effectively use the team's estimating systems, offering suggestions for improvement where appropriate.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of assigned tasks, subject to review by senior estimators.
  • Assist with post-bid analysis as required.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in construction management, engineering, quantity surveying, or a related field.

Requirements

  • Clear and professional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to deal effectively with all levels within different functional areas of the company as well as external customers
  • Exceptional analytical, planning and organizational skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience working with Excel and MS office programs such as MS Project
  • Foundational knowledge of construction estimating principles
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from senior team members

Preference Given to Persons who are/have:

  • Technical, university, or trade certificate (electrician, lineman or the like)
  • Over 1 year experience in commercial construction estimating, transmission and/or distribution power systems.

The position we are seeking to fill will be based out of either our Head Office located in Abbotsford, BC, or our main Alberta facility in Calgary.

Benefits
