MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Process Engineer on behalf of our client, a Calgary-based manufacturer specializing in custom-designed heat transfer and process equipment for the Oil & Gas and Utilities industries.

• Location: Calgary, AB – Office Based
• Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Responsibilities

• Perform thermal process simulations and support the development and optimization of thermal equipment designs.
• Complete process design activities, including line sizing and PSV/PRV sizing.
• Use tools such as HTRI, FRNC, and Excel-based thermal design programs to perform process and thermal calculations.
• Support the sizing, design, and fabrication of OTSGs, HRSGs, direct-fired heaters, and related heat transfer equipment.
• Develop and stamp/seal process engineering deliverables, including PFDs, P&IDs, Heat & Material Balances, equipment datasheets, and PSV and control valve sizing calculations.
• Validate process simulations used in the design of new thermal equipment.
• Support pressure vessel and piping registration requirements.
• Read and interpret manufacturing drawings, contracts, technical specifications, and applicable engineering codes.
• Review vendor equipment designs and calculations for compliance with project specifications.
• Check calculations and process deliverables prepared by other engineers.
• Coordinate with Project Management, Estimating, Procurement, Quality Control, Aftermarket, Drafting, and other engineering disciplines.
• Identify and resolve technical and design-related issues across multiple projects.
• Support multidisciplinary engineering activities throughout quotation, detailed design, fabrication, site installation, commissioning, and startup.
• Provide technical support to Project Managers and Project Engineers as required.
• Travel occasionally to vendor or construction sites.

Qualifications - Must-Haves

• Approximately 5–10 years of relevant process engineering experience.
• Strong experience with thermal process simulation, process design, and equipment sizing.
• Experience designing or supporting heat transfer and thermal process equipment.
• Experience developing PFDs, P&IDs, Heat & Material Balances, equipment datasheets, and process calculations.
• Experience with line sizing, PSV/PRV sizing, and control valve sizing.
• Experience with thermal/process simulation software such as HTRI, FRNC, or similar tools.
• Working knowledge of applicable engineering codes and standards, including ASME, CSA, and API requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings, technical specifications, contracts, and engineering documentation.
• Ability to review vendor designs and engineering calculations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong interdisciplinary coordination and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with OTSGs, HRSGs, direct-fired heaters, or waste heat recovery equipment.
• Experience with ASME Section I, ASME Section VIII Division 1, B31.1, B31.3, and CSA B149.1/B149.3.
• Experience with mechanical design and engineering of process equipment, heat transfer equipment, piping, and related systems.
• Experience supporting pressure vessel and piping registration.
• Experience across the complete project lifecycle, including estimating, detailed engineering, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and startup.
• Experience within the Oil & Gas or Utilities industries.
