What is the Opportunity?

Aecon is seeking an experienced Project Controls Specialist to join our team supporting the John Hart Dam seismic upgrade in Campbell River, British Columbia . Based at the project site office, this is an opportunity to play a key role in project controls while contributing to a significant hydroelectric infrastructure project on Vancouver Island.

The John Hart Dam site has a long history of major infrastructure investment. The previous John Hart Generating Station Replacement Project modernized the original hydroelectric facility, including construction of an underground powerhouse and power tunnel, while improving safety, environmental protection, and power generation for Vancouver Island.

The current John Hart Dam seismic upgrade is focused on strengthening the existing dam to improve its seismic resiliency. The project includes major civil works such as expanding the dam base with rock berms, constructing an underground concrete seepage barrier, developing a new overflow spillway, and anchoring the structure.

Located in Campbell River, the role offers the opportunity to work on a distinctive civil and hydroelectric project while enjoying a coastal Vancouver Island community with access to lakes, ocean, mountains, trails, and outdoor recreation. Relocation candidates will be considered.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Develop and maintain project job costs, forecasting, revenue, and cash flows.
  • Maintain project level cost and budget utilizing company provided software including identification of cost adjustments, quantities, forecast cost to complete, and budget revisions.
  • Support subcontractor and service agreement payments.
  • Develop and facilitate payment applications to the client.
  • Assemble cost and schedule proposals for change order work.
  • Prepare and coordinate reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in project decisions regarding cost and scheduling.
  • Provide additional support to the Scheduler when needed on an ad hoc basis.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as directed by the Project Management Team.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Approximately 5 - 10 years of relevant project controls and civil construction experience.
  • College and/or University degree in a related field, OR applicable work experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of SAP.
  • Intermediate to expert proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Applied knowledge of Earned Value principles.
  • Applied knowledge of Project Management and Project Controls principles, including experience with concepts of PMBOK.
  • Applied knowledge of cost engineering and cost control.
  • Organizational skills to handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure work site environment.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees.
  • Willingness for continuous learning and advancement of technical knowledge.
  • Detail oriented and customer focused.

The expected pay range for this role is $90,000 - $110,000 per year.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
