Community Engagement & Events Specialist

Reports To : Executive Director

Overview :

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Community Engagement & Events Specialist plays a pivotal role in advancing our mission by spearheading fundraising events, creating compelling content, and amplifying our organization’s impact. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting difference in the community through coordinated fundraising initiatives, donor engagement, and increased public awareness.

Position Summary :

The Community Engagement & Events Specialist is responsible for the planning, execution, and management of various fundraising events and marketing strategies. This role requires a dynamic, self-driven individual who can engage diverse stakeholders, manage multiple projects, and effectively communicate Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Annapolis Valley’s (BBBSAV) mission through events and outreach.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Work in collaboration with the Executive Director to develop, implement, manage, and evaluate fundraising initiatives including :
  • Signature Events :
  • Bowl for Kids Sake
  • Spooktacular
  • Lottery Calendar
  • Raffles
  • Softball Tournaments
  • Partner with community organizations on events like Golf for Kids
  • Evaluation and reporting
  • Develop comprehensive event plans with timelines, marketing, and communications strategies to maximize revenue and awareness. Oversee all aspects of event planning and execution, including :
  • Set-up and takedown
  • Timeline / Critical path development
  • Transportation and logistics
  • Vendor and venue coordination
  • On-site customer service
  • Budgeting
  • Goal Setting
  • Post event logistics and evaluation
  • Expand the fundraising portfolio for the agency
  • Identify and secure event sponsors and prize donors
  • Recruit volunteers, participants, teams, and ticket sellers
  • Cultivate new community partnerships to expand fundraising opportunities
  • Represent BBBSAV at third-party fundraisers and explore new third-party event opportunities
  • Deliver presentations to local businesses and organizations to promote fundraising initiatives
  • Communications & Marketing
  • Co-manage social media platforms and develop engaging content
  • Collaborate with Graphic designers
  • Use design platforms (Example : Canva) to produce promotional materials
  • Maintain and update website content, event pages, and peer-to-peer (P2P) platforms in alignment with branding
  • Assisting with and support marketing and promotion strategy
  • Create new communications tools (e.g., e-newsletters, testimonial videos)
  • Compile and maintain accurate campaign data, statistics, and reports
  • Process and acknowledge donations promptly (e.g., tax receipts, thank-you letters)
  • Collaboration & Professional Development
  • Participate in national and regional networking through Viva Engage and Microsoft Teams
  • Assist in developing donor recognition and alumni engagement programs
  • Support the delivery of agency-led Service Delivery events as needed
  • Assist the Executive Director with additional revenue generation opportunities (e.g., grants, Matchmakers, Giving Tuesday, Memorial Donations)

Other Duties

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director
  • Knowledge & Skills Required

  • Proven ability to manage and execute fundraising events, public relations, and sales
  • Experience in the non-profit / charitable sector is a strong asset
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong track record in stakeholder engagement and community relationship building
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Skilled at multitasking in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and creativity
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet evolving program and event needs
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and access to a reliable, insured vehicle
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp), and basic design platforms is an asset

  • Hybrid work model available following a successful probationary period
  • Some evening and weekend hours required to support events and programming
  • Hours : 30 hours / week with potential for increased hours based on program needs and funding
  • Salary : $28,080 – $32,760 annually (based on experience and qualifications)
  • An annual bonus of up to 10% is available for surpassing budgeted revenue targets, subject to management discretion and performance evaluations.
