Job Posting – Personal Support Worker (Full-Time)
Overview
Nipissing Serenity Hospice is currently accepting applications for one (1) full-time Personal Support Worker (PSW) to fill a vacancy.
Nipissing Serenity Hospice is a 10-bed, bilingual, residential hospice located in North Bay, Ontario serving the residents of the Nipissing and East Parry Sound Districts. The Hospice provides around the clock palliative care by an expert multi-disciplinary team in a peaceful setting for people of all ages at the end of life. Support is also extended to caregivers and families. At Nipissing Serenity Hospice we strive to ensure compassion, comfort and dignity at end of life.
Responsibilities
The Personal Support Worker will primarily be responsible to follow the individualized resident based care plan, observing and reporting any substantial findings and / or changes in resident’s behaviour to the appropriate registered member of the healthcare team.
This position will collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary team to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate patient care and support in consultation with individuals and their families. This role will also respect and protect the rights of clients, including but not limited to their right to independence, autonomy, and self-determination; their right to choose and practice individual values, beliefs, religion, and culture; their right to privacy and dignity.
Qualifications
- Personal Support Worker Diploma or certificate from a recognized college program
- Is caring and ethical in interactions with residents, families and colleagues. Supports an inclusive environment that is culturally sensitive and assuring that privacy, confidentiality and dignity are maintained
- Preference may be given to candidates who have completed : LEAP, Fundamentals of Palliative Care or equivalent educational courses in another jurisdiction, and PACE for PSWs
- Demonstrated experience working with hospice palliative care is considered an asset
- Evidence of a demonstrated client-centred approach to care and ability to work with families
- Self-motivated, results orientated, personable and charismatic, well organized, diplomatic, strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to multi-task
- Participates in mandatory education / training in services for skill development, self-care, team work and updates on new and / or relevant information on best practices
- Demonstrated computer skills
- Ability to work with internal and external team members
- Ability to take direction for RN / RPN team lead and a willingness to collaborate in an effort to ensure positive resident outcomes
- Ability to work a variety of shifts. Flexibility around scheduling changes; ability to pick up shifts on short notice.
- Physical and emotional ability and stamina to provide personal and clinical care to residents
- Dedication to safety measures and best practices
- Provision of Police Record check
- Effective bilingual (English / French) communication skills, both verbal and written, is an asset
Job Type : Full-Time Salary : Starting at $20.50 per hour plus a $3 / hr wage enhancement from the Ontario Government Benefits : Employer-sponsored RRSP, Dental care, Vision care, Extended Health Care Schedule : 8-hour shifts. The available line rotates as follows : Week 1 : M, Tu, F, S, S (40 hours); Week 2 : W, Th (16 hours). There is also the opportunity to pick up additional shifts. Work Location : In person at 799 John Street, North Bay
