The Role

Job Title: Senior Accountant
Department: Finance
Location: Edmonton, Alberta
Reporting To: Corporate Controller

As a Senior Accountant, you will play an important role in supporting BBE’s operations and customer commitments. This position requires sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt as conditions change. You are responsible for leading core accounting functions, preparing accurate financial reporting, and supporting the organization through strong technical accounting expertise, analysis and internal controls. You will work closely with internal teams, customers, and partners to ensure work is completed accurately, safely, and on time.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform full-cycle accounting tasks, including:Accounts receivable.Accounts payable.Credit card and bank reconciliations.
  • Assist with month-end reconciliation, consolidation, internal auditing, and analysis as required.
  • Prepare and review customer invoicing requirements.
  • Oversee customer invoicing workflows for timely processing and collection.
  • Resolve all accounting-related issues in a timely manner by working with Operations and/or external stakeholders.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Carry out assigned responsibilities with accuracy, accountability, and urgency.
  • Anticipate issues and contribute practical solutions before problems escalate.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to support smooth operations.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and customer requirements.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with stakeholders.
  • Support continuous improvement in how work is done.
  • Represent BBE with professionalism and integrity.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or commerce preferred.
  • Professional designation such as CPA or CPA candidate in good standing preferred.
  • 2+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience in:
  • Full-cycle accounting.
  • Month-end and year-end close.
  • Financial statement preparation.
  • Prior experience reviewing or mentoring junior accountants is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of general ledgers, accruals, prepaids, amortization, revenue generation and intercompany transactions.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting systems (MS Business Centralis an asset).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to see the ‘big picture’.
  • Ability to explain financial information to non-accountants.
  • Time management skills to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Professional judgement and discretion.
  • Comfortable working with minimal supervision.
  • Relevant experience in logistics, transportation, operations, or a related field.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced or changing environments.
  • A sense of ownership—you follow through on commitments.
  • A collaborative, team-first mindset.
  • Willingness to adapt and learn as priorities evolve.
