Job Description

RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position summary

The laboratory of Dr. Lehmann at RI-MUHC invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position to conduct research on auditory cognition. The focus is on exploring neuro-behavioral paradigms and machine learning to enhance outcomes for the hearing impaired. Research areas include brain plasticity, hearing restoration, music perception and appreciation.

Fellows will have access to a vibrant research ecosystem involving the McGill University Health Center (MUHC), the International Laboratory for Brain, Music and Sound Research & Centre for Research on Brain, Language and Music (BRAMS-CRBLM), and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Music, Media & Technology (CIRMMT). These affiliations provide significant opportunities for career development, mentoring, networking, and exposure at international conferences and workshops. Located in Montreal, Canada's Cultural Capital, the lab is part of a city celebrated for its major musical, cinematic, and visual arts events, including the world's largest jazz festival. Montreal is recognized for its high quality of living and vibrant multicultural ambiance.

Application should include :

  • A cover letter detailing your research experience and qualifications.
  • A full academic CV with publications, communications list, and contact information for at least two referees.

General Duties

  • Carry out research on brain plasticity comparing hearing-impaired and normal-hearing individuals.
  • Utilize behavioral methods, clinical evaluations, machine learning, eye-tracking, and electro-encephalography
  • Contribute to writing grant proposals and research papers for peer-reviewed journals.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and refine experimental designs.

    Education / Experience

    Education : Doctorate Degree

    PhD in Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Audiology, or related field, received ideally after September 2021.

    Work Experience : 0-4 years post PhD

    Required Skills

  • Strong academic track record with peer-reviewed publications
  • Expertise in brain imaging and statistical analysis.
  • Proven ability in applying machine learning algorithms to bio signals
  • Experience in brain plasticity, auditory cognition, and neural prostheses
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively
  • Excellent communication skills in English (oral and written).
  • Proficiency in French is an asset but not a requirement
