Sr. Manager Logistics

Summary / Purpose

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the delivery of contracted support services, including janitorial, Customer Service Centre, supply warehouse, mechanic shop, roads and grounds maintenance, and heavy equipment operations at 5 Wing Goose Bay.
  • Ensure operational readiness and regulatory compliance through effective planning, resource allocation, and maintenance of infrastructure, equipment, and facilities.
  • Lead snow and ice control operations on airfield surfaces and residential areas, ensuring safe, timely, and efficient response to weather conditions.
  • Drive continuous improvement by monitoring performance metrics, optimizing logistics strategies, and ensuring alignment with client objectives and Serco’s business goals.
  • Uphold Serco’s values and policies while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and customer satisfaction across all service areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the delivery of contracted logistics and support services at 5 Wing Goose Bay, ensuring alignment with client expectations and operational standards.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets for operating and capital planning, monitor expenditures, and identify cost‑saving opportunities while maintaining service quality.
  • Direct and support subordinate managers and staff in executing daily operations, long‑term planning, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate closely with military leadership and contract stakeholders to ensure mission alignment and fulfillment of contractual obligations.
  • Ensure operational readiness through proper training, certification, and compliance for personnel operating heavy equipment and handling hazardous materials.
  • Oversee and coordinate daily operations across multiple support functions including janitorial services, supply warehouse, mechanic shop, roads and grounds maintenance, and heavy equipment operations.
  • Plan and supervise snow removal operations on runways, taxiways, and residential zones using heavy equipment, ensuring timely and efficient response to weather conditions.
  • Develop and implement logistics strategies to optimize resource allocation, inventory control, and maintenance scheduling across all departments.
  • Lead emergency response and contingency planning for severe weather, equipment failures, and other mission‑critical disruptions.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by leading risk assessments, enforcing compliance, and driving continuous improvement in health and safety practices.
  • Maintain accurate operational records and documentation to support audits, inspections, and performance reporting.
  • Develop and manage effective relationships with client representatives, suppliers, and community partners to support seamless service delivery and operational excellence.
  • Recruit, develop, and lead a high‑performing team, delegating responsibilities appropriately and holding staff accountable through formal and informal performance management practices.
  • Oversee key supplier relationships and collaborate with corporate departments and external partners to support operational success.
  • Represent Serco in joint ventures and partnerships, aligning initiatives with strategic and contractual goals while modeling core values and fostering a culture of accountability, integrity, and service excellence.
  • Education / Certifications

  • A college diploma or university degree in logistics, supply chain, business, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Certifications such as PMP, CSCP, or CPL are highly valued.
  • Training in health & safety, environmental compliance, or heavy equipment operations is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of eight (8‑10) years demonstrated work experience. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 NL Driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Level II security clearance is required.
  • Ability to pass pre‑employment Drug and Alcohol test.
  • Knowledge & Experience

  • Demonstrated leadership and performance management experience in supervisory or managerial roles, ideally within logistics, operations, or infrastructure support.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 suite; familiarity with MS Project.
  • Strong grasp of logistics, technical operations, and financial principles.
  • Hands‑on experience with Serco’s Defence contract at 5 Wing Goose Bay, with strong technical understanding of its systems, procedures, and operational frameworks.
  • Background in military base or airport operations, including air traffic support and ground services.
  • Solid understanding of supply chain management practices and principles.
  • Working knowledge of commercial and labour contracts; certifications such as PMP or equivalent program management credentials.

  • Competent in analyzing operational data to support continuous improvement and informed decision‑making.
  • Adaptable and resilient in dynamic environments, with a focus on maintaining service excellence under pressure.
