What You Will Be Doing

  • Focus on project work, debugging performance degradations, audits, and health checks.
  • Design and help implement new MongoDB and Cassandra deployments.
  • Evaluate existing clusters and provide recommendations on best practices.
  • Debug high priority issues on mission critical production environments.
  • Engage with the MongoDB and Cassandra community through user lists, IRC, blog posts, webinars, and open source projects.
  • Contribute to rapid brainstorming and prototype development.
  • Automate and provide documentation on operational procedures.
  • Train and mentor junior team members.
  • Provide performance and forecast reports on the health and load of critical business processes.
  • Participate in company and team meetings.
  • Continue education in Pythian’s Operations‑as‑a‑Service supported stack.
  • Provide on‑call support as part of the team’s on‑call rotational schedule.

What We Need From You

  • A Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with MongoDB databases.
  • Experience with Cassandra is an asset.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as Solr, Scylla, CockroachDB is an asset.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Shell, Java, Go, C#, C++, Ruby, Python, Ansible), with Shell and Python preferred.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Experience with web applications, distributed systems, and databases.
  • Familiarity with multiple orchestration and configuration management systems.
  • Understanding of continuous integration and automation practices.
  • Knowledge of monitoring, alerting, and metric collection systems.
  • Understanding of IT service standards such as ITIL.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Self‑motivated and directed approach in demanding, fast‑paced environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong active listening skills.
  • Robust analytical, evaluative, and problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Highly effective multitasking and organizational skills.
