Oracle Database Administrator

Rate: $70-75/hr CAD.

Job description:

We are seeking an experienced Oracle Database Administrator with strong expertise in Oracle 12c and AWS RDS for Oracle to support, manage, and optimize mission critical database environments. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in high availability, disaster recovery, performance tuning, patching, and cloud-based database operations, with a strong focus on reliability, security, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration & Operations

• Install, configure, administer, and support Oracle databases (primarily 12c) in both on premises and AWS environments
• Perform day-to-day database administration activities, including:
  • User management and access control
  • Storage management
  • Health checks and capacity planning
• Ensure high availability, stability, and performance of production and non-production databases

AWS RDS for Oracle

• Manage AWS RDS for Oracle environments, including:
  • RDS instance provisioning and configuration
  • Multi-AZ setup and maintenance
  • Option Groups and Parameter Groups configuration
• Perform backup and recovery operations using RDS snapshots
• Monitor RDS performance and proactively address issues

High Availability & Disaster Recovery

• Implement and manage Oracle Active Data Guard environments
• Perform failover and failback activities during incidents and planned events
• Participate in DR drills and ensure recovery objectives (RTO/RPO) are met

Oracle Grid & ASM

• Manage Oracle Grid Infrastructure 12c
• Administer and support Oracle ASM for storage management and optimization

Performance Tuning & Monitoring

• Monitor database performance using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) 12c/13c
• Perform SQL and system-level performance tuning to optimize database efficiency
• Identify performance bottlenecks and recommend long-term fixes

Patching, Upgrades & Cloning

• Perform rolling patching and database upgrades with minimal downtime
• Handle database cloning activities for development, test, and production support
• Ensure patching and upgrade activities follow organizational standards and best practices

Documentation & Collaboration

• Create and maintain database runbooks, SOPs, and technical documentation
• Collaborate with application teams, cloud teams, and infrastructure teams to resolve issues
• Provide operational support during audits, releases, and critical business events

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 5 8 years of experience in Oracle Database Administration
• Strong hands-on experience with Oracle 12c
• Experience with AWS RDS for Oracle, including:
  • RDS Snapshots
  • Multi-AZ deployments
  • Option Groups and Parameter Groups
• Strong knowledge of Oracle Active Data Guard, including failover/failback techniques
• Hands-on experience with Oracle ASM and Grid Infrastructure (12c)
• Expertise in performance tuning and monitoring using OEM 12c/13c
• Experience with database cloning, rolling patches, and upgrades
• Solid understanding of backup and recovery strategies in AWS RDS environments

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience working in large enterprise or regulated environments
• Exposure to incident, problem, and change management processes
• Scripting experience (Shell, SQL, or similar) for automation and monitoring
• Experience supporting 24x7 production environments
• Familiarity with security best practices for Oracle databases

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
• Comfortable handling high-pressure production issues
