ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The AMD Data Center GPU Power and Performance Attainment Team is a cutting-edge team engaged on an array of leading hardware Power and Performance optimization technologies found in today’s state-of-the-art Data Center Products. It is a high performing team with exciting and friendly environment, high energy, collaborative and highly skilled staff and management wanting to build great products.

THE ROLE:

The successful candidate will assume responsibility of post-silicon thermal activities related to thermal attainment and optimization of AMD Datacenter products. Thermal Attainment within AMD’s Datacenter GPU organization covers the development of end-to-end silicon to system thermal policy, thermal stability, thermal feature tuning, and enabling manufacturing thermal readiness.

THE PERSON:

Must be a self-starter, effective communicator, strong team collaborator and able to independently drive tasks to completion. The candidate will work with co-located teams with a focus on thermal management as well as hardware-firmware infrastructure necessary for thermal attainment activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Learn and execute thermal attainment test plans in post-silicon time periods in support of Data Center GPU product roadmap.

  • Investigating thermal management techniques through both hardware and firmware-based solutions.

  • Actively participate in analysis of post silicon thermal and power data, ensure integrity of results and provide summary and conclusions of results.

  • Hands-on experience to work locally or remotely with computers, systems or data center hardware for practical knowledge with hardware applicable to servers, data centers or thermal equipment as a means to accomplish thermal attainment work

  • Calibration of thermal sensors and working with other groups to correlate sensor accuracy across platforms

  • Support prototyping experiments for new GPU features that impact thermal and power characteristics

  • Troubleshoot system-level issues that may occur in test environments and platforms

  • Participate in development of automation environment in developing scripts automating workloads, enhancing capabilities of execution capabilities in Linux, Python and other support software support tools

  • Develop test methodologies for future power and thermal management features and solutions working with multi-functional teams

  • Work in Windows and Linux environments

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

·Strong background in thermodynamics and heat transfer

·Experience in datacenter environment preferred

· Solid understanding of thermal management methodologies in datacenter products

· Prior experience using ANSYS IcePak or similar tools

· Experience with power and thermal controllers and management.

· Knowledge in liquid cooling and hands-on lab experience is a plus

· Knowledge in thermal sensor characterization

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a key attention to details

· Experience in data analysis, summarization, and presentation

· Excellent presentation and communication skills

· Proficiency in Python, C or other programming languages

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

Bachelors in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science. MS Preferred.
