The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Ground Control Specialist, to join our Stobie Open Pit team in Sudbury. This is a permanent position with the Local 2020-05 union.
The Ground Control Specialist is accountable to provide rock mechanics and ground control engineering services to Stobie Pit.
Additionally, in this position you will :
- Follow Safety Plan developed for the department in conjunction with the Stobie Open Pit Safety Plan.
- Recommend action to ensure that safety and stability of mine excavations is maintained with respect to geotechnical requirements.
- Recommend solutions with respect to day-to-day ground control issues based on underground observations or operation reports.
- Provide technical support, advise and assist the mine operators and technical staff regarding ground control strategies and methods.
- Advise, assist and aid in instrumentation selection & use for ground control measures.
- Assist rock mechanics specialist with respect to data acquisition and analysis.
- On-call duties as required for technical assistance with ground control stability issues.
About You
Education : Graduate Mining Engineer; registered as a professional engineer in the Province of Ontario or a specialist with the required knowledge base.
Experience : More than five years of related experience.
