Job Description
EBC thinks outside the box and deploys all its know-how to carry out major infrastructure projects: bridges, roads, highways, tunnels, and marine installations. Our ability to meet deadlines and budgets, along with our extensive expertise, allows us to play an active role in large-scale projects such as the Samuel-De-Champlain Bridge, the Réseau Express Métropolitain (REM), and the Site C hydroelectric power station near Fort St. John, BC.

We are seeking an onsite planner for our Ladore Project located in Campbell River.

This role will require full-time onsite presence.

The Project Scheduler owns the preparation, maintenance, updating and reporting of the project’s Supply & Install Schedule and its associated look-aheads, narratives and registers.

The role converts the construction plan and the discipline engineers’ inputs into a logically sound CPM model, keeps it current against actual progress, protects and analyses the critical path, and produces the schedule deliverables the contract requires at the frequency it specifies.

The role sits within the Submittals & Scheduling function reporting to the Project Director, working alongside the Document Controller and coordinating closely with Project Controls, the discipline Project Engineers, Construction, and the AELGP Contract Administrator.

Its output underpins monthly progress certification and payment, gate-outage management, delay and acceleration analysis, and BC Hydro’s understanding of where the Work stands.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain the prime-contract CPM Supply & Install Schedule in Primavera P6, to the Appendix F standard.
  • Produce the contract schedule deliverables at the required frequency - the Baseline (established), monthly progress updates, weekly 3-week look-aheads, the schedule register and the as-built schedule - plus the monthly EXCO schedule update.
  • Actualise progress and report status frequently (percent-complete no less than two times per week, on Mondays and Thursdays).
  • Integrate project quantities into the schedule and update quantities complete weekly, with input from the Field Engineers.
  • Monitor and protect the critical path, and provide early warning of slippage and late-trending activities.
  • Support the net-effect-on-time submissions for Changes, extension-of-time claims, time-impact analysis and float-erosion notices with the Contract Administrator (GC.9 and GC.10).
  • Integrate the subcontractor and discipline schedules - provided by the Project Engineers - into P6, and coordinate across the project team.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree or relevant discipline, or equivalent experience;
  • 5 to 10 years of experience as a Construction Planner
  • Excellent knowledge of Primavera P6 (essential) and MS Project (optional), including the use of WBS and other coding systems;
  • Linear schedule (TILOS), schedule quality audit (DCMA-14) and 4D software (Synchro 4D/Navisworks) (an asset); Bilingualism: English, French is an asset;
  • Planning certification (an asset) (PMI-SP, AACE-PSP);
  • Risk management training (an asset).

Project specific:
  • Diploma or degree in engineering, construction management, or a related technical discipline - or equivalent demonstrated scheduling experience on major projects.
  • A recognized planning & scheduling certification is an asset (e.g., AACE PSP or PMI-SP).
  • Expert operation of Primavera P6 (contract-mandated) - activity coding, calendars, resource/cost loading, baselining, progress updating, layouts and reporting.
  • Proficiency with Excel for manpower curves, quantities and data handling; familiarity with Aconex (document/submittal control) and Bluebeam an asset.
  • CPM scheduling on heavy civil, industrial, hydroelectric or major infrastructure projects, ideally under an owner-driven schedule specification with formal progress reporting.
  • Building and maintaining multi-discipline schedules that integrate procurement, fabrication, delivery, construction, commissioning and turnover.
  • Experience with change time-impact and delay analysis and with schedule support for extension-of-time claims.
  • Developing and maintaining sound CPM logic; managing the critical path, float and near-critical paths.
  • Progress measurement, tracking-Gantt updates, schedule narratives and clear stakeholder reporting.
  • Reading and interpreting specifications and drawings; translating sequencing requirements and restrictions into schedule logic.
  • Coordinating inputs across disciplines and Construction; surfacing constraints and conflicts early.
  • Organized documentation discipline - registers, schedule basis, data dates and version control.
DESIRED PROFILE:
  • Teamwork, attention to detail and thoroughness, organization and prioritization, communicator, trainer and change
  • agent;
  • Curious and not afraid to think outside the box;
  • Ensure coordination with other team members;
  • Ensuring that good project management practices are followed;
  • Dependable;
  • Good analytical skills;
  • Ability to manage pressure, available
  • Be detail oriented;
  • Excellent communication;
  • A solid foundation of construction sequences;
  • Good knowledge of quantitative schedule risk analysis, schedule maintenance and change management, measuring
  • and assessing progress, trends and forecasts, and reporting
  • Organizational skills, ability to multi-task, prioritize, make decisions and instruct others to ensure quality
  • deliverables.
  • Relentlessly follows up with people, demanding updates and ensuring the critical path remains on track.
  • Assertive, relentless, and uncompromising.
