Interior Health is looking for an experienced Coordinator, Protection Services Operations Centre (PSOC) to join our team on a full time permanent basis.

This position allows for a flexible work location from within the Kelowna area with the requirement to be on site primerily.

Salary Range:
Salary range for the position is $76,111 to $109,409. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

About the job:
In accordance with the established vision and values of the organization, the Coordinator, Protection Services Operations Centre, is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Protection Services Operations Centre (PSOC) and Photo ID (PID) programs, including the associated team members.

The Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the critical services of PSOC and PID effectively support safety and security across Interior Health and liaises with internal and external partners to ensure services meet the needs of the customers.

Typical duties and responsibilities:

• Participates in and coordinates the development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of programs, policies, and procedures in the assigned area of responsibility across IH.

• Responsible for the day-to-day coordination of a team of PSOC & PID team members to ensure effective shift coverage, and, in consultation with the Manager, ensures compliance with policy and performance standards. Monitors individual team members’ performance; provides guidance and instruction as and when required.

• Provides management, leadership, and supervision to staff in line with established directives and policies relating to the mission and goals of the organization and develops procedures to guide staff in carrying out their duties.

• Hires, appraises, and disciplines staff, up to and including termination. Manages employee attendance and coordinates the Attendance Promotion Program within the department. Carries out employee performance evaluations.

• Monitors and tracks the notifications of security and safety incidents and escalates these via the appropriate channels for follow-up and support. Triages various requests and issues and escalates to the Protection Services Management Team.

• Develops and maintains Standard Operating Procedures to guide PSOC & PID personnel work.

• Develops, implements, and delivers a comprehensive training and onboarding program for PSOC & PID personnel.

• Verifies the operational status of various enterprise security systems to ensure these are working properly; reports any anomalies to the appropriate authority for further action or guidance.

• Ensures that a preventive maintenance plan for the PSOC & PID is in place and oversees its implementation; verifies that maintenance and repair work is implemented as planned and according to standards.

• Interprets and administers collective agreements; participates in the investigation of and response to grievances and routine, confidential employee issues; and participates in Third Party hearings.

• Provides support in managing operating and capital budgets for the assigned area of responsibility, including budget preparation, control, and reporting of expenditures, ensuring the efficient utilization of financial resources.

• Acts as liaison and provides consultative advice to leaders regarding security activities; participates in the development of action plans for the assigned area of responsibility including the investigation and determination of appropriate outcomes; provides advice to, and participates with, Human Resources, the Director/ Manager, and others in security investigations and activities involving staff.

• Promotes awareness of Protection Services’ programs by developing and delivering informational and educational programs (such as management of aggressive behaviour, loss prevention, and personal safety/security) and participates in the review and evaluation of these programs.

• In cooperation with affected departments/personnel, Human Resources, and external agencies, conducts risk and threat assessments and makes recommendations relating to safety and security issues.

• Coordinates with the Lead, Protection Services on issues related to systems and technology of the assigned area of responsibility, under the authority of the Manager, including the monitoring and management of capital funds assigned for security technology.

• Consults on behalf of IH with external agencies and organizations such as fire, police, emergency response agencies, and other hospitals on issues relating to security.

• Maintains an information system of activities, investigations, incidents, losses, and resolutions. Produces related statistics and reports.

• Participates, as a representative of Protection Services and of IH, on internal and external committees as required.

• Provides after hours on-call function for Protection Services across IH as required.

• In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, maintain a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations and implementing required corrective actions.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.
