Assisi House, Inc. Mission Statement

We provide housing for unhoused or housing insecure individuals in small, communal settings where each person is treated with dignity and respect.

Position Description

The Executive Director is Assisi House’s organizational leader, charged with sustaining and growing the organization, while always nurturing a positive, high quality and productive environment for residents, staff and volunteers. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing and managing Assisi House operations, administration, programs and events; for hiring, supervising, and evaluating personnel; for fundraising and financial / budget oversight; and for cultivating strategic partnerships within the housing and philanthropic communities.

Position Goals

Ensure excellence of service to residents and financial sustainability of the organization, in alignment with the Assisi House’s Mission, Vision and Values

Key Responsibilities / Main Areas of Focus

Leadership :

  • Partner with the Board of Directors to set strategic initiatives and implement them day-to-day
  • Keep a finger on the pulse of best policy, community engagement, and services for the unhoused community locally and nationally.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships to implement innovative solutions to complex problems
  • Be an advocate for the unhoused and for Assisi House, and a strong presence while representing Assisi House in community and partner meetings
  • Foster an organizational culture in which each person is valued, both those in the position of receiving hospitality and those in the position of offering it
  • Be an advocate for and respect the lived experience of residents and lead the organization with resident input at the forefront.

Administration and Organization Oversight :

  • Together with the Board of Directors, develop and ensure the effective implementation of all Assisi House policies, procedures, guidelines and materials
  • Maintain a viable infrastructure and implement operating systems to ensure the effective management of all Assisi House operations including management of human, financial and material resources
  • Track and maintain leases, insurance, contracts, and other administrative commitments

  • Oversee Personnel
  • Hire, orient, train, supervise and evaluate staff and contracted service providers and / or effectively delegate responsibility to appropriate management staff

  • Set the vision and work with team members to set and accomplish goals
  • Oversee and assist in the planning of Assisi House programs and events
  • Oversee Volunteer Engagement and Management
  • Run special projects like the Accompaniment Partners Program.
  • Finance, Fundraising and Donor Relations :

  • Prepare annual budget together with the Board Finance Committee and ensure that the organization’s resources are managed within the budget
  • Ensure Assisi House’s sustainability by leading the organization’s fundraising, grant writing, and donor relations
  • Cultivate new donors and grant sources
  • Retain current funders with the goal of increasing their current giving
  • Lead organizational fundraising, including a committee to implement fundraising goals and strategies
  • Research and identify appropriate grant opportunities; write and / or coordinate applications; manage grant budgets and reporting

  • Identify opportunities to generate revenue needed to support Assisi House operations within the budget
  • Community and Public Relations :

  • Serve as the official spokesperson for Assisi House
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships within the housing and philanthropic communities
  • Initiate and encourage collaboration and cooperation among Assisi House’s residents, staff, and relevant community stakeholders
  • Maintain and enhance the public image of the organization by communicating information and working collaboratively with appropriate organizations, individuals and constituencies
  • Foster an environment that provides care, support, and radical hospitality to residents
  • The Executive Director reports to the Assisi House Board of Directors and is an ex-officio member of the Board and committees.

    Qualifications

    Experience and Skills :

  • Leadership experience in a social service organization or relevant field
  • Proven skill in nonprofit administration, fundraising, grant writing, donor relations, and strategic planning
  • Experience in project management, human resources, staff / volunteer management and budgeting
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Google docs, and social networking tools
  • Core Competencies :

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse individuals, companies and organizations

  • Benefits Summary

  • Monthly stipend for health insurance; 120 PTO hours per year plus 10 paid holidays.
  • Salary range $70 – 100,000 per year.
