Job Title: Android Developer
Job Description
Join a dynamic team responsible for delivering some of the most highly utilized functions of a modern in-car infotainment system. As an Android Developer, you will design and implement customer-visible features that are used by millions of people every day. You will have the opportunity to test your software under real conditions in test vehicles. Media playback is a critical piece of the modern in-car infotainment system, and your challenge will be to ensure that the playback experience is flawless. Whether it’s a library of MP3s on a USB stick, or the latest Apple Radio streaming service from an iPhone, you will make it accessible and intuitive to enjoy.
Responsibilities
- Leverage industry best practices to design, implement, test, and support new feature development.
- Work in an agile team of software developers and test engineers.
- Investigate, debug, understand, and fix bugs in the product.
- Investigate options for designing new features and review these options with the team.
- Write unit tests to validate your code.
- Review code from other team members and provide constructive feedback.
- Develop proof of concepts and prototypes for potential new features.
- Participate in design reviews with the team.
- Lead a small team of junior developers and provide guidance.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in Java and Kotlin with 10 years in software development.
- 4 years of experience developing on Android.
- Experience with AOSP level of Android, including writing headless services, APIs, AIDLs, HAL, and HIDL.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented design and development.
- Experience with Multimedia and/or USB on Android.
- Experience with unit-testing and mock frameworks such as gtest, gmock, Robolectric, and Mockito.
- Experience in implementing MCP server and tools.
- Experience in using ML/AI tools for software development such as Github Co-pilot.
- Familiarity with agile methodology.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience leading a technical team.
- Experience with Bluetooth, USB, MCP, Linux, and embedded development.
Work Environment
Expectation is to work on-site at the Waterloo location, 5 days per week. Flexible schedule and timing are available for personal needs, accommodating work-from-home days as needed.
This is a Contract position based out of Waterloo, ON.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $80.00 - $95.00/hr.
