You will work closely with Project Management, Production, and external stakeholders to transform design concepts into manufacturable, high-quality products.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role that combines advanced SolidWorks design expertise with practical manufacturing knowledge, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

Engineering Design & Drafting (Approx. 90%)

  • Lead the creation and oversight of all customer approval and production drawings within the Engineering Department
  • Develop detailed SolidWorks designs for custom store fixtures using wood, metal, acrylic, solid surface, and hybrid materials
  • Translate customer concepts and sketches into fully detailed, production-ready shop drawings
  • Assign project and part numbers based on customer coding standards
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and internal teams to clarify and confirm project requirements
  • Work closely with Production to determine optimal fabrication methods and assembly strategies
  • Solve complex design challenges related to non-standard components, joinery, and fabrication techniques
  • Optimize designs for manufacturability, material usage, machining efficiency, and labour effectiveness
  • Support production during fabrication by resolving engineering issues in real time
  • Incorporate red-line feedback from the shop floor into final drawing revisions
  • Prepare final working drawings for production release and client approval

Estimating Support (Approx. 2.5%)

  • Assist in preparing preliminary estimates and project costing using EPICOR ERP
  • Develop material take-offs and preliminary Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Source and compare supplier quotations for outsourced components
  • Support routing and cost build-up based on engineering and production strategies
  • Finalize BOMs following client approval and ensure alignment with SolidWorks models and part structures

Procurement Support (Approx. 2.5%)

  • Communicate with suppliers regarding pricing, lead times, and delivery terms
  • Assist in preparing purchase orders for materials and outsourced components
  • Support procurement decisions for long-lead or specialty items

ERP & Production Coordination (Approx. 2.5%)

  • Create and maintain Work Orders within EPICOR ERP
  • Translate BOMs and routing data into accurate production work instructions
  • Coordinate with procurement and production teams to manage material availability
  • Support CNC programming coordination and respond to fabrication and assembly inquiries

Leadership & Quality Control

  • Review and approve work completed by Junior Engineering Designers
  • Provide clear feedback, coaching, and technical guidance to support skill development
  • Promote accuracy, consistency, and continuous improvement within the Engineering team

Requirements

Must-Have Skills & Experience

  • Solid understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes
  • Experience designing wood-based products, cabinetry, or store fixtures
  • Strong mathematical ability for measurements, tolerances, and fit calculations
  • Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems (EPICOR experience an asset)
  • Understanding of estimating, BOM creation, and procurement workflows

Education & Background

  • Post-secondary education in:
