Scarboro Golf & Country Club (SGCC), a top-tier private club established in 1912, is seeking an experienced Catering Manager to join our team. SGCC hosts various private events throughout the year, including charitable events and tournaments, weddings, corporate gatherings, family celebrations, and fundraisers. Our versatile facility accommodates events of various sizes, with capacities of up to 200 guests.

We are looking for a dedicated professional with a proven track record in event planning and execution. The ideal candidate will have experience working with internal and external clients, collaborating with our Food & Beverage, Clubhouse, and Kitchen teams to coordinate and deliver seamless, high-quality events.

The successful candidate must demonstrate expertise in sales, planning, detailing, and directing event execution with precision and professionalism.

Job Description

General

  • Manages all aspects of the catering and event operations.
  • Conduct sales tours of the facility and attend occasional shows, networking events, and other outreach events to generate leads.
  • Seeks out new and innovative opportunities to continually impress the members and guests, and displays strategic thinking, excellence, passion, and forethought.
  • Keeps the Clubhouse Manager and Chief Operating Officer informed of all significant or potentially significant operating matters, problem areas, achievements, or any other matters of importance.
  • Works with the Executive Chef and Food and Beverage Services Manager to ensure the successful execution of all events.
  • Actively participates as a member of the Extended Leadership Team (ELT).
  • Serves as a staff liaison on appropriate Club committees and at planning meetings with Club convenors and catering event planners.
  • Communicates and works closely with the Clubhouse Manager to discuss service requirements and facility conditions to develop and plan for recommended capital needs related to catering and event operations.
  • Maintains all banquet areas in accordance with the standards set out in the SGCC Standards document.
  • Completes regular evaluations of the catering and events program.
  • Undertakes special projects as requested by the General Manager & COO or Clubhouse Manager, including duties beyond managing the catering and events operations department.
  • Ensures compliance with all legal, legislative, health & safety, and employment handbook requirements (e.g. licensing, etc.).

Member and Guest Experience

  • Works with the Clubhouse Manager, Executive Chef and Food and Beverage Services Manager to create ‘event experiences’ through wine pairing dinners, private functions, chef’s table, specialty dining events, membership engagement opportunities.
  • Ensures outstanding service is delivered to all members and guests throughout their catering or event experience.
  • Maintains contact with members or guests throughout the event and helps to ensure maximum member / guest satisfaction.
  • Receives and resolves complaints from members, guests, and staff with high professionalism.
  • Interacts with members and guests answering questions, solving problems, overseeing services, attention to detail, and cleanliness.
  • Assists in preparing the marketing plan to increase the profitability of the banquet operation.
  • Assists in preparing the annual budget for catering and event revenues and related expenses; monitors performance against budget; takes corrective action as necessary to help ensure budget goals are met.
  • Prepares detailed BEO’s for each event and ensures all appropriate charges are billed correctly and that invoices are sent out in a timely manner.
  • Research new products or services and develop an analysis of their costs / benefits.
  • Assists the Clubhouse Manager and Controller in developing / implementing long-range (strategic) and annual business plans, operating reports, forecasts, and budgets related to the catering and events operations.
  • Employee Management

  • Oversee the set-up of all functions / banquets ensuring proper procedures are adhered to and executed according to the standards set out by the Club and requirements detailed in the BEO’s.
  • Work with the floor supervisors to coordinate the activities of workers in banquet rooms, kitchens, bars and other areas during events.
  • Assists in creating training programs for banquet staff, including training manuals, documents, and media presentations.
  • Assists with banquet staff hiring and completion of annual staff evaluations.
  • Job Skills and Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience working in Event / Meeting planning. Club Experience is not essential but is beneficial.
  • Proven organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple events simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and to collaborate with team members.
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and extended hours as required by event schedules.
  • Interest in and demonstrable interest in food, wine and spirits.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, stoop, and walk for up to five hours at a time, while using service equipment, including but not limited to carrying trays, glasses, and tableware.
  • Must have sufficient physical strength and ability to independently and repeatedly lift, move and carry objects weighing up to thirty (30) pounds and to repeatedly lift, move and carry objects weighing more than thirty (30) pounds with assistance.
  • Job Type : Full-time, Permanent

    As a salaried position, weekend and evening work is required. Parking on-site, PD Funds available. Annual Performance Bonus, Benefits.
