About the Role
The Child and Youth Workersupports vulnerable and / or at-risk youth from Port Mellon to Pender Harbour onthe Sunshine Coast. This is achieved through individual and group support, andoutreach, with the aim of increasing life skills, social networks, and safetyusing a harm reduction model. Specific supports include, but are not limitedto, developing Youth-Centred Plans focused on behavior management andsocial / life skills development. This role also involves significant outreach tothe community, providing resources and information to youth-servingorganizations, schools, and caregivers. The Child and Youth Worker reports tothe Lead of Youth Care Services.
What You’ll Do
- Creating a safe,comfortable, and welcoming environment for children and youth, providingage-appropriate activities with adaptations as needed.
- Promoting behavioralchange and personal growth for children and youth who are having difficultiescoping as a result of social, emotional, physical, or cognitive delays.
- Designing, implementing,and evaluating youth-centered individual plans to aid in transitioning youth toindependence.
- Providing life skillstraining as per goals set out by the youth and other stakeholders.
- Supporting youth toachieve their established goals using a strengths-based approach.
- Reaching out to youth attimes when, and in places where, they are not connected to adult supervision,assessing their primary needs, and taking appropriate action using a harmreduction model of service delivery.
- Working within the youth’scommunity to utilize local resources and programs.
- Initiating activity groupsrelated to the specific needs and goals of the youth.
- Participating in caseconferencing as required.
- Maintaining accurate andcurrent file records on all youth.
- Maintaining awareness ofcommunity resources and gaps, as well as the socio-economic and geographicalmake-up of the community.
- Consulting with socialworkers, other professionals, and family when appropriate.
- Adhering to SCCSS policiesand procedures and meeting all legal, contractual, financial, and othercompliance requirements such as CARF.
- Participating in andcontributing to regular staff meetings.
- Other duties as assigned
