Position Summary

The Systems Manager, Trading and Operations is a full-time, Vancouver office-based position within the middle office of Dixon Mitchell Investment Counsel, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief Operating Officer with the management of Dixon Mitchell’s Portfolio Management System, including building and documenting workflows for portfolio management activities, trading, settlements, reporting, performance measurement, and billing.
  • Analyze and identify process inefficiencies, provide solutions, and implement improvements.
  • Develop and implement appropriate, customized software (mostly SQL and Python scripts) to advance and automate processes.
  • Ensure necessary checks and verification steps are in place and used diligently to minimize trading and non-trading activity errors.
  • Manage Dixon Mitchell’s Salesforce instance.
  • Manage internal and external deadlines in a timely manner, effectively resolve conflicting priorities, and negotiate workable timeframes with Executives and other business participants.
  • Effectively communicate processes and provide training to team members.
  • Use your knowledge of company operations, policies, and initiatives to proactively perform all your duties with high accuracy, diligence, and minimal direct supervision in a fast-paced environment. Must be confident and provide clear instructions, and ensure processes are efficient and effective.

Experience / Qualifications

  • Degree in Finance, Math, or Computer Science.
  • CFA Designation or other industry qualifications.
  • Experience with books of record (ABOR / IBOR) systems such as Advent (Axys or APX), Simcorp, or Broadridge is an asset.
  • Extensive experience in programming and computer science, specifically with :
  • Python
  • OOP and Functional programming
  • OpenAPI, REST, Bloomberg API
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in trading, portfolio management, and settlements
  • Experience with multi-broker, multi-custodian settlement processes (SSCNet / FMC or CTM / Omgeo) is an asset.
  • Experience with Salesforce, including building workflows is an asset.
  • Experience with system and software implementation projects is an asset.
  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to create technical implementation strategies and provide staff-level guidance.
  • Proven ability in diagnosing and troubleshooting inefficiencies and providing solutions.
  • High level of professionalism, ethics, and competence.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong multi-tasking skills while maintaining accuracy and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and in high-pressure circumstances.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.
