The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team facilitates and advances person-centered care through evidence-based professional practice and learning strategies and programs that are designed provincially and implemented locally to enhance collaborative learning and practice. The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team takes a leadership role in creating a culture of collaboration with a focus on team-based care, evidence-informed practice, and learning and professional development to improve health outcomes for patients, families and communities. Through strong partnerships with the academic sector, regulators, and government, the Interprofessional Practice and Learning team has an integral role in influencing and operationalizing health system priorities.
About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Central Zone Manager IPPL, the Paramedic Educator is responsible (in collaboration with key stakeholders) for the assessment, implementation, planning, evaluation and supportive application of existing and new clinical knowledge and the translation of knowledge to practice. The primary focus of the Paramedic Educator is to build capacity for all classes of paramedics and be present at the point of care to contribute to the development of their core competencies. As a member of the IPPL team, the Paramedic Educator works with IPPL team, clinical leadership and staff, to foster person centered, collaborative care and collaborative interprofessional relationships. The Paramedic Educator facilitates and / or coordinates learning that builds capacity, supports, and advances professional practice and maintains and develops evidence-based standards of care. The Paramedic Educator acts as a resource to clinical leadership and staff related to the application of relevant legislation, professional credentialling, and standards of practice. The Paramedic Educator practices in accordance with the Regulated Health Professions Act, Paramedicine Regulations and By-Laws and CPNS Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. This position will support paramedic practice at the Dartmouth General Emergency Department (ED) site and cross-coverage of other EDs within CZ.
Please note this position requires periodic travel to facilities within Central Zone. A valid driver’s license and access to transportation is required.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following :
- Completion of a recognized Critical Care Paramedic program required
- Three (3) years Clinical experience within the past 5 years as a Critical Care Paramedic in an Emergency Department setting required
- Active licensure with the College of Paramedics of Nova Scotia required
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required
- Advanced Trauma and Life Support (ATLS), Crisis Resource Management, Advanced Interventions and Management in Emergencies, Procedural Sedation and Analgesia Course, and Simulation are required or willing to obtain
- Competency in ED specific skills including ITLS, casting and suturing, procedural sedation required
- Recent evidence of leadership development and / or experience
- Knowledge of and experience with program development, implementation, and evaluation
- Experience working in a fast-paced, high stress, multi-disciplinary environment an asset
- Skilled in the facilitation of concept-based learning, collaborative learning and practice development
- Ability to delegate, problem solve and resolve conflict
- Evidence of effective interpersonal and communication skills in a variety of contexts
- Computer skills including, Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and computer documentations systems
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Compensation and Benefits
40.69 - $44.96 hourly
39,671 - $43,838 annually
