IT Senior SAP PI/PO Integration Suite Migration Lead

Client: City of Burnaby

  • Location: Burnaby (Remote/Hybrid)
  • Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Preference: Candidates located in the Greater Vancouver area preferred.

Contract Period: July – December 2026

Location: Remote or On-site at the City of Burnaby

Work Arrangement: Remote work permitted. Strong preference for local candidates.

Hours: On-demand as required, based on mutual availability. Maximum up to 70 hours bi-weekly.

Equipment: Consultants must provide their own laptops.

Position Overview

The City of Burnaby has undertaken an ERP Modernization Program. As part of this program, the City completed migration of its on-prem SAP ECC to S/4 Hana on RISE. The current initiative is a follow-on project to migrate from on-prem SAP Process Orchestration (PO) to cloud-based SAP Integration Suite.

The City landscape includes approximately 30 PO interfaces utilizing various communication protocols including SOAP, SFTP, RFC, and others. The City is currently in the process of setting up Integration Suite and other cloud services on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP).

The City is seeking a Senior SAP PI/PO Integration Suite Migration Lead to act as a technical lead and advisor for the migration project.

Role and Responsibilities

The consultant will:

  • Assess the migration complexity of each interface.
  • Determine the best migration strategy for each interface.
  • Create technical task lists and identify interdependencies.
  • Guide and monitor the work of the City's SAP PO integration team.
  • Troubleshoot technical blockers.
  • Keep the ERP Modernization Program Management informed of migration status.
  • Assist management in establishing interface and API governance models for the new technical architecture.
  • Provide mentoring and knowledge transfer to City staff on system setup, configuration, and support requirements.

This is not anticipated to be a full-time engagement. Most hands-on development work will be performed by the City's existing SAP PO integration team.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in several SAP Process Orchestration (PO) to SAP Integration Suite migration projects.
  • Minimum 3 years of demonstrated experience developing and supporting interfaces with SAP Integration Suite.
  • Minimum 3 years of demonstrated experience developing and supporting interfaces with SAP Process Orchestration.
  • Experience with SAP S/4 Hana and SuccessFactors is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting SAP S/4 Hana implementation projects is highly desirable.

Must-Have Technical Skills

  • Proven experience migrating SAP Process Orchestration constructs including adapters (IDoc, SOAP, REST, File, etc.), message mappings, Java mappings/UDFs, BPM/ccBPM processes into SAP Integration Suite.
  • Strong expertise with:
    • SAP BTP
    • Cloud Connector
    • Migration Assessment
    • Cloud Integration (CPI)
    • Security Models (OAuth, SSL Certificates)
    • iFlows
    • Graphical Mapping
    • Groovy Scripting
  • Proven experience evaluating migration complexity and developing migration strategies uniquely suited to each interface.
  • Proven experience transporting Integration Suite development objects from Test to Production environments.
  • Experience assisting project managers with detailed task lists, effort estimates, and identification of task interdependencies.

Highly Desired Skills

SAP BTP Architecture and Administration experience, including:

  • Designing multi-cloud landscapes.
  • Setting up SSO and access policies.
  • Planning data models and SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC).
  • Defining policies and roadmaps.
  • Managing sub-accounts and spaces.
  • Deploying and maintaining applications.
  • Managing users and roles.
  • Administering HANA and SAC environments.
  • Controlling platform costs and usage.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills

  • Ability to listen well and communicate thoughtfully with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong written communication, documentation, and presentation skills.
  • Good visual design and documentation skills.
  • Ability to solve complex and ambiguous technical problems using experience, creativity, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Agile and Waterfall implementation methodologies.
  • Proven track record of delivering assignments within agreed timelines.

Key Deliverables

  1. Produce weekly status reports detailing hours worked, completed tasks, and planned activities.
  2. Communicate assignment status clearly and timely to IT leadership, City management, staff, and project stakeholders.
  3. Provide weekly updates on deliverables and impacts to project timelines.
  4. Produce formal documentation in accordance with the City's PMO methodologies and documentation standards.
  5. Deliver mentoring and knowledge transfer to City staff on system setup, configuration, and support requirements.
