Position description

The Pierre Lassonde School of Fine Arts at Mount Allison University invites applications to teach FINA 1111 (Fundamentals of Drawing II) for the winter term (January to April 2026), as a stipendiary (part-time) position. This course is a continuation of FINA 1101 (Fundamentals of Drawing I), which introduces students to a variety of drawing media and observational techniques. This course is a required course for all first year BFA students. The anticipated enrolment is 30 students, and the class involves 6 contact hours of class time per week.

Candidates should have a completed Master of Fine Arts degree, a strong commitment to and experience with teaching at the undergraduate level, a strong dedication to their studio practice, and a current exhibition / publication record. An informed awareness of contemporary critical discourse in fine arts and visual culture as well as the ability to incorporate critical theory into studio courses at all levels is required. Experience with digital and time-based media is an asset.

Applications should include a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, a digital portfolio with up to 20 examples of creative work, relevant support material including a teaching portfolio, and the names of two references, submitted as a single PDF.

Part-time appointments at Mount Allison University can hold up to 4 stipend positions over two terms, therefore, applicants are welcome to apply for more than one stipend position at the Pierre Lassonde School of Fine Arts. Mount Allison is a highly respected small undergraduate institution. With 15 full and part-time faculty and technical staff and approximately 130 students, the Pierre Lassonde School of Fine Arts offers a BFA and BA with Majors and Minors in Studio and Art History, and Minors in Museum and Curatorial Studies. The School of Fine Arts is located in the Purdy Crawford Centre for the Arts, a purpose-built facility on the Mount Allison campus. An important support to the School on campus is the Owens Art Gallery, with a program of contemporary and historical exhibitions and visiting artists’ presentations.
