We're actively seeking new talent to join our mission of transforming B.C.'s energy landscape. As one of BC's Top Employers with a diverse team of over 2,700 employees, we are committed to a safe and inclusive culture where each of us can connect, belong, and grow. Join us, and together, let's shape a brighter future for B.C.

Position Overview

You’re a tactical mastermind who can leverage your thorough understanding of government greenhouse gas (GHG), energy and climate change policies to develop aligned actionable corporate strategies in the energy utility sector. You’re incredibly thorough in your approach, adaptable in rapidly changing environments, and collaborative in nature to ensure your strategies are rock solid. We need someone like you to join as a Policy Advisor, Climate Action.

In this role, you’ll support our Public Policy and Government Relations department with progressing climate action and policy objectives, including our Clean Growth Pathway plan’s compliance.

In this role, you will :

  • Conduct analysis and engagement related to climate action policies applicable to the buildings, industry and transportation sectors in British Columbia.    .
  • Support the development of strategies to advance FortisBC’s zero and  low-carbon solutions for the buildings, industry and transportation sectors across both electric and gas utilities in an effort to contribute to BC’s Climate action goals and objectives.
  • Contribute to the development and compliance with FortisBC’s internal greenhouse gas reporting, tracking and action framework.

What it takes :

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited post-secondary institution in a relevant field such as environmental studies, political science, public affairs, business administration, or engineering, plus a minimum of four to seven years related experience in energy industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A master’s degree is considered an asset.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention-to-detail with a focus on public policy analysis to develop strategies with an in-depth understanding of energy and climate strategies, GHG abatement, regulations, and policies.
  • Strong skills in the use of  business analysis, financial evaluation methods, and project management.
  • Exceptional communications skills with a focus on government and stakeholder relations for GHG policy frameworks in Canada.
  • A demonstrated understanding of energy systems, modeling, and GHG abatement solutions alongside proven energy sector, utility and regulatory experience.
  • What you need to know :

  • Prior to the interview, Talent Acquisition will conduct a full employee general record review. This will include, but is not limited to : sick leave and attendance records, personnel file review and letters on file.
  • In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.

Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
