Structural Engineer

Overview

Sedgman Canada Ltd. is currently looking for a Structural Engineer to join our team in Vancouver, BC. He / she will support structural engineering projects by conducting structural engineering design, overseeing design / drafting work, controlling design activities within project budgets and schedules, and preparing technical reports.

Sedgman is a consulting engineering company in the mining space and is currently experiencing a rapid expansion in our North American offices; they are positioned for growth, and this role is business critical within the organization.

What does this role involve? Main Responsibilities

Perform structural and concrete designs ensuring compliance with relevant codes, industry standards.

Participate in concept studies, including estimating quantities and preliminary designs

Perform detailed concrete and steel design, including interaction with Drafters to produce models and documentation in line with quality and project requirements

Assist with construction enquiries, including safe lifting and erection

Participate in interdisciplinary design reviews, and 3D model reviews, to ensure reliability, maintenance, construction, and safety in design requirements are met for the design

Interface with other Engineering disciplines, including Electrical, Process and Mechanical

Focus on technical innovation and continuous improvement

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in structural engineering

Will have 7 to 10 years of relevant structural engineering experience

Registered member of the Professional Engineering association in BC (EGBC)

Strong understanding of steel and concrete design for heavy industrial structures

Demonstrated sound knowledge and experience in design / consultancy / operational environments

Previous mining or metals industry experience is highly desired

Ability to safely and effectively self-manage time, priorities and activities

Experience with Canadian building code across the provinces is desirable

Must be eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship

Salary Range : $95,000 to $155,000

The salary offered to the successful person for this position will consider education, experience, relevant skills and capability, geographic location and market conditions at the time of hire.
