Position Description
The Laser Operator plays a key role in the production process, responsible for setup, operation, and inspection of CNC laser cutting equipment. From interpreting technical drawings to executing precise cutting sequences, this position requires both technical expertise and a commitment to quality.
Planning & Workflow
Organize and prioritize daily cutting schedules to meet production requirements.Coordinate work order tracking in the production system, ensuring records are accurate and up to date.Ensure output aligns with planned timelines and quality standards.Laser Operations
Interpret CAD drawings, specifications, and technical documents to set up jobs correctly.Perform equipment setup and nesting procedures across a range of metals (steel, aluminum, stainless).Operate CNC laser cutting machines with accuracy, ensuring smooth start-up, processing, and shutdown.Label, sort, and transfer cut parts to the appropriate next stage (forming, welding, etc.).Inspect cut parts for surface defects or dimensional errors, correcting issues as needed.Assist with routine machine maintenance, alignments, and cleaning tasks to keep equipment at peak performance.Support inventory management, including flat stock inspection, restocking, and organizing deliveries.Quality & Safety
Conduct first-piece inspections (FAI) and verify quality against work orders.Partner with Quality and Engineering teams to resolve non-conformance issues and implement corrective actions.Maintain a clean, safe workspace following safety protocols and 5S principles, always using proper PPE.Qualifications
Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication and general manufacturing processes.At least 5 years’ hands-on CNC laser machine operation experience.Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and flat patterns with confidence.Proficiency in part inspections using precision measurement tools.Exposure to nesting software is an asset.Forklift license and / or crane operation certification are advantages.Comfortable working in an MRP-driven environment with basic computer skills.Team-oriented, with problem-solving skills and strong communication abilities.Education
High school diploma combined with a technical diploma or equivalent practical experience in CNC laser operations.
