4th Class Operating Engineer - Temporary Full-time
Reporting to the Supervisor of Engineering and Maintenance, you will be responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and associated equipment. All duties will be carried out in accordance with all provincial, municipal codes, departments, and hospital policies.
Primary Responsibilities
Operate automated or computerized control systems, stationary engines and auxiliary equipment such as cogeneration plants, boiler plants, refrigeration plants, generators, pumps, compressors, and other equipment that provides light, heat, ventilation and refrigeration for the Hospitals buildings.Start up and shut down power plant equipment, control switching operations, regulate water levels and communicate with systems operators to regulate and coordinate transmission loads, frequency and line voltages.Monitor and inspect plant equipment, computer terminals, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, meters and other instruments to measure temperature, pressure and fuel flow to detect leaks or other equipment malfunctions and to ensure plant equipment is operating at maximum efficiency.Analyze and record all instrument readings and equipment malfunctions.Troubleshoot and perform corrective action and minor repairs to prevent equipment or system failure.Clean and lubricate generators, pumps and compressors and perform other routine equipment maintenance duties using appropriate lubricants and hand, power and precision tools.Maintain a daily log of operation, maintenance and safety activities, and write reports on plant operation and non-compliance.Regular rounds to check mechanical equipment and perform needed mechanical service.Ensures continuous efficiency of all mechanical equipment services and faculty equipment.Answers and reacts promptly to all trouble calls or alarms from buildings during off hour and weekend shifts.Reviews computer printouts and alarms and takes appropriate action.Co-ordinates and / or assists outside contractors.Housekeeping : painting, sweeping floors, cleaning piping, boilers and equipment.Responds to off duty calls to correct emergency situations and problems.Maintains daily log sheets on operating equipment and records all important events that occur during shift.Respond promptly to emergency situations, such as equipment failures or system malfunctions, and perform necessary repairs to minimize downtime.Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including equipment logs, work orders, and incident documentation in respective systems.Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines i.e. LOTO, arch flash, working at heights etc.Follows a schedule of preventative maintenance – depending on equipment may occur weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly, etc. Includes flushing drains, filters, etc.Mandatory Qualifications
Secondary School Diploma.4th Class Operating engineer certification valid in the Province of Ontario.1 – 2 years of experience as a licensed Operating Engineer.Advanced knowledge and experience with water treatment best practices.Knowledge of Fire, alarm and suppression systems preferred.Able to read blueprints and plan layouts.Previous experience in a health care environment preferred.Ability to work all shifts.Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.Strong organizational and communication skills.Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.Ability to work independently and collaboratively across all levels of the organization.Criminal Record Check required.Our Commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
