The Opportunity
This is a permanent, full-time opportunity within a sterile compounding environment at a closed-door pharmacy. The organization is committed to the highest standards of patient care and precision, specializing in the preparation of sterile medications that require strict attention to detail and compliance with quality and safety protocols.
The organization runs several shifts, but due to growth they have added a 3pm to 11pm shift, Monday through Friday.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative team that takes pride in safely preparing and dispensing customized medications that play a vital role in improving patient outcomes. Position Description
- Prepare sterile compounded medications according to prescriber orders, formula, and regulatory standards
- Perform accurate calculations and measurements for compounding pharmaceutical preparations
- Label, package and document compounded products according to internal procedures and quality assurance protocols
- Conduct visual inspections of compounded medications for signs of contamination, discolouration or particulate matter
- Follow aseptic techniques to maintain sterility and prevent contamination in cleanroom setting
- Operate and maintain laminar airflow hoods, biological safety cabinets, and other sterile compounding equipment
- Ensure compliance with USP and NAPRA guidelines
- Maintain a clean and organized sterile compounding area that includes routine cleaning and environmental monitoring
- Maintain accurate records of compounding activities including batch records, compounding logs, etc.
- Work with the pharmacists on duty to resolve discrepancies and clarify orders
- Monitoring inventory in the lab and requesting any materials required
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year experience in compounding within a hospital, specialty pharmacy or compounding facility
- Experience working in an aseptic cleanroom environment a STRONG ASSET
- Knowledge of NAPRA and USP 797 a STRONG ASSET
- Experience compounding sterile preparations such as intravenous admixtures, TPN, Chemotherapy drugs or ophthalmic solutions an asset
- Experience with quality assurance, documentation, and batch record keeping in a regulated environment an asset
- Familiarity with inventory management of raw materials and supplies
- Experience using compounding software or pharmacy information systems such as Kroll, Healthwatch, etc.
Qualifications
- 1+ years’ experience working in a compounding pharmacy, or pharmaceutical manufacturing setting
- Experience measuring and compounding preparations based on a variety of formulas
- Solid understanding of aseptic techniques required in a sterile laboratory environment
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of post-secondary education a strong asset
