This opportunity is ideal for a hands‑on formulation expert who thrives in a team‑based lab environment and is motivated to create high‑performance coatings that meet industry standards and customer expectations. Joining a people‑first organization in a new phase of strategic growth, the successful candidate will be a key contributor to the ongoing evolution of BeautiTone, the number one Canadian‑made and owned retail paint brand, exclusive to Home Hardware.

Reporting to the Lab Manager, this technical leader will be responsible for developing, improving, and maintaining coating formulations from concept through to production. Drawing on a strong understanding of raw materials and paint chemistry, they will research and design new products, manage lab testing and scale‑up, and provide expert support to quality control, batchmakers, and plant staff. In collaboration with cross‑functional teams, they will help ensure new products meet performance, regulatory, and commercial goals while maintaining Home Hardware’s reputation for quality and innovation.

The successful candidate will also liaise with external industry partners, technical reps, and suppliers to explore alternative materials, improve performance, and reduce costs. Their work will directly influence Home Hardware’s ability to stay competitive and agile in a dynamic marketplace. In addition to formulation and troubleshooting, this role offers the chance to mentor junior lab staff, support product launches, and contribute to various internal initiatives.

To qualify for this opportunity, candidates should possess :

• A college diploma in Chemical Engineering Technology or a university degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
• 8 to 10 years of experience in coatings formulation, product development, or a related field
• Proven ability to create and optimize formulations using deep knowledge of raw materials and their functional properties
• Experience with lab instrumentation and testing methods, including ASTM and supplier‑developed protocols
• A solid understanding of paint manufacturing processes and plant scale‑up
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues and adjust formulations as needed
• Confidence working independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced lab setting
• Comfort supporting cross‑functional projects and engaging with multiple departments
• Effective communication and documentation skills, including technical reporting and lab recordkeeping
• Knowledge of regulatory standards such as MSDS, CCCR, WHMIS, and environmental health and safety policies

Salary : $54,000‑$74,000 plus performance bonuses
