As an Import Specialist, you’ll serve as a proactive leader in managing and optimizing the flow of imported goods. This role requires an analytical and strategic mindset, with responsibilities including improving customs compliance and international logistics processes, managing vendor and broker relations, and identifying and acting on opportunities for continuous improvement. You will work closely with internal teams to align import processes with business goals, enhancing both efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Lead international import activities, with a primary focus on imports from Asia (China and Vietnam) to the US, and additional responsibilities for imports to Canada and Mexico.
- Oversee commercial documentation, working with customs brokers, internal teams, and external partners to ensure seamless compliance.
- Provide expertise in customs classifications, including HTS codes, anti-dumping regulations, and import duties, while reviewing tariff data and preparing reports to identify optimization opportunities.
- Track and trace shipments, providing proactive status updates and ensuring clear communication with stakeholders to maintain alignment with timelines.
- Build and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to import logistics, using data insights to improve lead times, reduce costs, and enhance service quality.
- Identify and implement process improvements to optimize transportation routes, methods, and carrier selection.
- Manage relationships with carriers and brokers, negotiating quotes and terms to secure cost-effective, value-adding solutions.
- Utilize SAP to manage import records and transactions.
- Own and manage purchase orders (POs) related to import activities, ensuring accuracy and alignment with business objectives.
Qualifications
Qualifications we’re looking for.
Experience :
Demonstrated experience in customs compliance and import logistics, with a proven track record in managing imports from Asia (especially China and Vietnam) to the US.
Strong knowledge of US, Canada, and Mexico customs regulations, with practical experience in air and ocean shipping logistics.Skills :
Skilled in data analysis and KPI tracking with a focus on continuous improvement and cost-effective solutions.
Proficiency in SAP and Excel with experience in data-driven decision-making.Effective communication skills for collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders across Procurement, Planning, and Warehouse.Abilities :
Strong knowledge of US, Canada, and Mexico customs regulations, with practical experience in air and ocean shipping logistics.
Language : This role involves interaction with internal and external clients and partners nationally and globally. Professional competency in the English language is therefore a requirement of this role. Bilingualism in both French and English is considered an asset.Education :
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, International Business, or a related field; equivalent work experience will also be considered.
