Laboratory Technician - Part-time (Research Institute)

Job Description
Under the direction of an immediate supervisor, you will execute laboratory projects and experiments, perform routine laboratory tests, and maintain laboratory equipment. Your work will support research in cellular therapy, tissue culture, histology, and related disciplines.
General Duties
- Participate in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments, performing specialized technical tasks according to established methodology.
- Prepare and set up materials and equipment; perform assays, analyses, and tests such as tissue culture and histological procedures.
- Record results, perform calculations, compile data, and maintain accurate records and files.
- Demonstrate the operation of apparatus or techniques.
- Maintain equipment, perform minor repairs, and arrange for servicing.
- Ensure the cleanliness and safety of the work area.
- Maintain inventory; purchase equipment and materials.
- Keep abreast of new developments in the field to update skills and knowledge.
- Use a variety of equipment including balances, pipettors, laminar flow hoods, incubators, microscopes, centrifuges, computers, and audio‑visual equipment.
- Manipulate cryostorage freezers with liquid nitrogen.
- Accomplish any other related tasks as required by the immediate supervisor.
Required Skills
- Excellent French and English, spoken and written.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently or in teams with minimal supervision.
Education / Experience
Education: Diploma of College Studies (DEC) in a relevant field.
Other Education Considered an Asset: Any advanced training in laboratory science.
Work Experience: 1 to 2 years in a laboratory setting.
Professional Membership: Ordre professionnel des technologistes médicaux du Québec and/or Certification de la Société canadienne de science de laboratoire médical (preferred).
Employment Details
- Status: Temporary, part‑time (21 hours/week).
- Pay Scale: $22.83 – $34.26 hourly, commensurate with education and experience.
- Work Shift: Variable between Monday and Friday.
- Work Site: Glen Site, 1001 boul. Décarie, Montreal.
