Title : Shift Manager

Required Shift : 12 Hour rotating shifts – Shift rotates between days (7am‑7 : 30pm) and nights (7pm‑7 : 30am), Mondays‑Fridays.

Job Purpose : The Shift Manager is a shift‑based, front‑line operations people manager who efficiently improves Quality, Human Safety, and Product Cost Conversion while engaging and developing talent. The Shift Manager drives safety, quality, continuous improvement, performance management, associate development, team engagement, and operating results for their assigned area. The Manager coordinates short‑term activities, partners with the 24‑hour Area Managership Team to deliver continuous improvement and Mars Supply Excellence (MSE) program implementation, builds effective teams, manages training strategy, and enforces established policy.

Minimum Requirements :

  • BASc Eng, BASc Food Science, or BSc preferred.
  • Operational management principles and competencies.
  • Understanding of applicable laws (OHS, ESA, MOL).
  • Lean business practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and drive change.

Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to lift / carry (10‑55 lbs) & push / pull (50‑200 lbs).
  • Frequent handling / gripping / bending / stooping.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights off a ladder or platform, climb stairs, lean over equipment.
  • Ability to stand and / or work on feet for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in various manufacturing environments and non‑temperature‑controlled rooms.
  • Read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Minimum 5‑10 years manufacturing leadership experience.
  • Previous people‑management experience.
  • Petfood, food, beverage or pharmaceutical manufacturing experience.
  • Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • What will your key responsibilities be?

  • Conversion – Manage the efforts of multi‑line, area, or technology operating teams on one shift to efficiently convert materials into quality products in a safe, secure, and sanitary manner.
  • Change Agent – Implement changes in methods, equipment, systems, and organization to ensure the objectives of the line / area are met and provide recommendations using a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Mars Supply Excellence – Lead or participate in one or more MSE Pillars; support implementation of Autonomous Maintenance (AM) and Autonomous Work Teams (AWTs) and own reliability data accuracy.
  • Area Ownership – Collaborate with the Area Managership Team to create and execute the reliability strategy for the area.
  • Coaching – Coach operators to build functional and managerial capabilities and drive accountability in safety, quality, and food safety.
  • Line Operations – Coordinate materials, staffing, and resources to support line operation and changeovers.
  • Standards Implementation and Adherence – Ensure standards are implemented on shift through communication, change‑management, coaching, and accountability measures.
  • Associate Safety – Ensure safe working conditions, behaviors, and mindsets through implementation of Mars safety programs.
  • Food Safety and Product Quality – Own training and champion quality goals at the area shift level. HACCP proficiency required.
  • Associate Advocacy – Manage associate relations issues and guide hiring, training, retraining, development, and motivation of associates.
  • Engagement – Drive an environment of high associate engagement.
  • Goal Setting and Measurement – Establish performance standards and goals and report results.
  • Troubleshooting – Utilize technical resources for preventive maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of process equipment.
  • Escalations – Prioritize resources and resolve escalated issues.
  • Communications – Establish open communication and broaden scope and responsibility of teams.
  • Technology Advancement – Advise on technology change opportunities.
  • Operations Strategy – Implement improvement strategies for near‑term performance.
  • Recruiting and Onboarding – Partner with Talent Acquisition to recruit, select, and onboard associates.
  • Associate Development – Mentor and support associate development and long‑term career growth.
