The at invites applications for a Tenure Track faculty position in the field of Indigenous Education at the rank of Assistant Professor in Education beginning July 1, 2026. Teaching duties will be assigned on our Brantford campus . Anticipated Salary Range : $90K to $120K. Actual salary to be commensurate with experience. This position is subject to budgetary approval.

The Faculty of Education, established in 2007, began with a small core faculty offering one program : the Bachelor of Education, Primary / Junior division. The Faculty has grown in size and scope with the addition the Bachelor of Education, Junior / Intermediate division; Master of Education (Interdisciplinary and Student Affairs field); PhD in Educational Studies; International Education Studies (in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts), Teaching Option, and an Education Minor. In 2022, the Bachelor of Education opened additional cohorts on the Brantford campus. Additionally, the Faculty offers several outreach programs including a Mental Health in the Classroom certificate and Additional Qualifications courses for practicing K to 12 educators.

Within this environment, the Faculty of Education (Brantford Campus) is seeking an Indigenous scholar who uses research and teaching to prepare educational leaders who inspire lives through learning in collaboration with community partners. The scholar will have an active voice in shaping the way the Faculty of Education furthers its strategic goals, contribute to the longer-term vision of the Faculty, and enhance programming to ensure it is relevant and reflective of the society in which students live and work. The Faculty of Education is deeply collaborative; the scholar will have the opportunity to work with other scholars across the Faculty and Laurier including the.

The position is open to candidates who hold a completed PhD in Education or EdD, by the start of the appointment. An Indigenous scholar with ten years lived experience as a community practitioner / Knowledge Keeper and / or with significant experience in post-secondary teaching with a Master’s degree will be considered.

Successful candidates must :

  • Be Indigenous and complete for consideration
  • Use Indigenous ways of knowing and Indigenous pedagogies to teach a selection of courses in the Faculty’s Bachelor of Education, Master of Education, and / or PhD in Educational Studies programs.
  • Provide evidence of using Indigenous ways of knowing, Indigenous research methodologies, or Indigenous pedagogies to inform research in indigenizing and decolonizing education on Turtle Island.
  • Demonstrate promise and enthusiasm to develop additional courses within their area of expertise.
  • Provide leadership to further the Faculty’s decolonizing education strategy and to help lead the Faculty’s decolonizing and Indigenization goals in alignment with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
  • Have a minimum of three years teaching or teaching related experience in K-10 Canadian contexts.

  • Teaching qualifications, with preference given to candidates holding Ontario College of Teachers certification or equivalent.
  • Evidence of teaching and / or leadership experience in K-12 education
  • The duties and responsibilities of the position are as follows :

  • Teach core courses in Indigenous Education and associated curricular area in the Bachelor of Education.
  • Provide leadership and program development in the area of Indigenous Education in teacher education.
  • Teach courses in other programs in the Faculty of Education (Bachelor of Education, Master of Education, PhD in Educational Studies, Bachelor of Arts in International Education Studies, and / or in the Education Minor programs).
  • Engage in an active research program related to Indigenous Education and / or related fields.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Faculty of Education and engage in leadership and active service to the Faculty and the University, with a focus and presence on the Brantford campus.
