Job Overview

The Data Center Sites Technician III will be responsible for day-to-day data center support activities, including but not limited to : server and network hardware installation, copper / fiber cabling, Layer 1 troubleshooting, IT asset management, network hardware and CLI troubleshooting, and Linux server-related tasks. The Site III Technician should be conversant in common networking hardware CLIs (Cisco, Arista, Dell, Juniper) and skilled in using and navigating different Linux distributions. The role involves monitoring and responding to hardware and software issues, utilizing standard ticketing systems, and providing clear, timely customer communications. Activities are governed by SOPs, program requirements, safety and security policies, and on-call rotation for after-hours support. The technician participates in the change management process, including monitoring production and performing preventative maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Hardware installation and configuration for servers and network devices
  • Manage copper and fiber-optic cabling
  • Perform Layer 1 troubleshooting and IT asset management
  • Network hardware CLI troubleshooting
  • Work with Linux environments and address BIOS issues
  • Monitor and respond to hardware / software issues; document actions and outcomes
  • Adhere to SOPs, safety, and security policies; participate in on-call rotation
  • Contribute to change management processes and preventive maintenance

Required Skills

  • Must provide own transportation to work location(s)
  • Ability to respond to on-call requests within 1 hour
  • Update asset management data using scanners; leverage ITSM / DCIM systems
  • Familiarity with Linux OSes and network device CLIs (e.g., Cisco, Arista, Juniper, Dell)
  • Experience managing server, switch, router, storage hardware lifecycles
  • Understanding of cabling (power, Cat6, fiber optic, Infiniband) and data center practices
  • Strong written communication to document tickets and email customers
  • Multitasking, adaptability, punctuality, reliability, and organization
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work independently on projects
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment if certified
  • Experience with O365; ability to learn new systems and procedures
  • Ability to stand for long periods and safely lift at least 50 pounds
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Required Experience

  • 4+ years Rack and Stack experience
  • OS provisioning / reprovisioning (USB or network-based)
  • Bootstrapping network devices and configuring IP addresses
  • 1-2 years of Linux and scripting experience (e.g., GitHub repos, Linux setup, Ansible)
  • CompTIA Server+ and ITIL Foundation certifications are preferred
  • DNS / DHCP experience
  • Working knowledge of ticketing systems (Jira preferred)
  • Working knowledge of server hardware (HP, Dell, Supermicro)
  • Working knowledge of networking components and protocols (Cisco, Arista, Juniper)
  • Data center practices knowledge (fault tolerance, redundant cabling, power calculation, etc.)
  • Strong cable management skills for fiber and copper in data centers
  • Basic understanding of electrical, HVAC, and cable infrastructure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Data Center certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCENT) are desired
  • Layer 2 and Layer 3 network troubleshooting experience
  • Experience installing, troubleshooting and navigating Linux OSes
  • Compensation
