Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Unit Manager (UM) is accountable for the daily operations of the McCaig Day Surgery Unit, the SSB Day Surgery Unit, as well as Unit 41B inpatient general surgery (21 beds) in the main building. The UM works collaboratively with members of the interdisciplinary team and key stakeholders across perioperative services (, numerous partnerships with surgeons, anaesthesia, nurse practitioners, Pre-Admission Clinic, Admitting, research teams, etc.), as well as diagnostic imaging admit/recovery care. This role requires a strong commitment to the vision of the department, Surgical Services, and the wider organization based on the Alberta Surgical Initiative to increase surgical access for Albertans.
Description:
This front-line leadership position will facilitate the daily clinical and operational needs of these diverse Units ensuring that safe and efficient patient care is delivered through staff scheduling, patient & family centered care, as well as fulfilling accountabilities for the management of human, material and financial resources. Key responsibilities also include hiring, orienting, supervising, coaching, and evaluating staff; supporting professional development; and demonstrating accountability through the appropriate use of HR practices. The UM will participate in the development of strategic plans, quality improvement project work, and change management initiatives while demonstrating ethical decision-making and effective communication and interpersonal skills. The UM will maintain consistent standards while ensuring that they foster inclusion, and a respectful, compassionate team culture by modeling professionalism and kindness. Success in this position requires advanced problem-solving and critical thinking skills, strong judgment and decision-making abilities, as well as self-motivation and the ability to practice independently while contributing effectively within a team environment. The UM must demonstrate proficiency with building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. In addition, the UM must be skilled with conflict resolution, change management, resource management, as well as interpersonal and written communication, which are essential to this role.
