SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure adherence to all applicable Federal and Provincial health and safety regulations for each site location;
- Be responsible for coordinating/accomplishing health and safety orientations (for employees and contractors), performing work site inspections, and participating along with Health and Safety Commitees in investigating incidents and injuries/claims;
- Develop, plan for, and when possible conduct, health and safety training including but not limited to: WHMIS, Personal Protection Equipment, CPR/First Aid, and specialized training (where applicable);
- Monitor employees and contractors regularly for compliance to safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and management system elements;
- Provide coaching and support on health and safety requirements to the managers, supervisors, crew chiefs and workers related to Health and Safety;
- Proactively identify and prevent hazardous situations and communicate situations to management;
- Ensure the site inspections are carried out in accordance with the health and safety regulations and posted as required;
- Develop, maintain and continually improve H&S programs and processes to effectively support the Operation;
- Develop and provide required monthly safety performance reports to management, identify trends, recommend initiatives to reduce incidents and improve prevention initiatives;
- Act as the Primary H&S contact and liaison both internally and externally;
- Manages relationships with key clients, including both internal and external stakeholders on safety-related matters;
- Develop policies and procedures where applicable; ensure appropriate policies are in place to support, monitor, audit and improve overall health and safety;
- Improve existing Health & Safety Committee System across each base, and post meeting minutes as required;
- Develop and implement effective Health & Safety Policy Committee meetings and post meeting minutes as required;
- Monitor the aviation industry to identify safety concerns that may directly impact the operation
- Prepare and submit all Labour Canada reporting as required;
- Work closely with Human Resources to manage all workers compensation claims and related reporting;
- Participate in the Quality Assurance Committee Meeting as required;
- Participate in audits as required;
- Coordinate and administer the company-wide Emergency Response Plan;
- Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Experience in a similar role, preferably within the aviation industry;
- Familiarity with Canada Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, Canada Labour Code Part II, and Aviation Health and Safety regulations as outlined by Transport Canada;
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement standards/policies that address business needs;
- Excellent presentation, facilitation and communication skills;
- Experience in Aviation Safety Management and Quality Management Systems is considered an asset;
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
- Above average problem solving skills and the ability to make independent decisions;
- Self-starter, and able to work with minimal supervision;
- Blingualism is an asset.
EDUCATION:
- University or college diploma related to the field.
