Job Description

Lead the Future of Wildlife Science with ERM

Are you an experienced wildlife ecologist with a passion for data‑driven insights and sustainability? This is your chance to make a measurable impact on biodiversity while working on high‑profile projects in the Mining and Energy sectors. Join ERM and help shape solutions that matter—locally and globally.

Why This Role Matters

At ERM, we’re redefining how organizations approach sustainability. As a Consultant, Quantitative Wildlife Ecologist, you’ll play a critical role in advancing biodiversity strategies through rigorous science and innovative statistical approaches.

This position offers flexibility to work from one of our Canadian offices: Vancouver, BC; Smithers, BC; Calgary, AB; Saskatoon, SK; Toronto, ON; or Yellowknife, NT. Your expertise will help clients meet regulatory requirements, protect ecosystems, and achieve sustainability goals across diverse landscapes.

What Your Impact Is

You’ll be part of ERM’s Wildlife and Statistics teams, collaborating with multidisciplinary experts—biologists, GIS specialists, toxicologists, hydrologists, and marine scientists—on projects that influence environmental policy and industry practices. Your work will contribute to innovative solutions that balance development and conservation.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in wildlife biology with a strong statistics focus (preferably large mammal or avian biology).
  • Minimum 2+ years as a statistician or wildlife biologist; prior experience in government, mining, or oil & gas sectors is an asset.
  • Proficiency in wildlife biology, population biology, and statistical analysis.
  • Ability to interpret complex data using standard statistical methods (e.g., spatial data from satellite collars, resource selection functions, population growth models).
  • Experience with R.
  • Ability to lead field programs and conduct surveys using standard techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage projects on time and on budget.
  • Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather and challenging terrain.
  • Commitment to health and safety protocols.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and time management skills.
  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.

This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Preferred

  • Professional Biologist Certification, or ability to obtain.
  • Wildlife identification and habitat assessment skills.
  • Bilingual in English/French or English/Spanish.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and review technical work in wildlife biology and statistics.
  • Manage biological projects and components, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Interpret complex datasets and apply innovative statistical approaches.
  • Promote wildlife and statistical services; identify and develop new opportunities.
  • Build strong client relationships and deliver exceptional client experiences.
  • Prepare technical proposals, scopes, and cost estimates; support business development.
  • Mentor junior staff and assist with statistical skills development.
  • Collaborate with ERM practitioners globally to deliver integrated solutions.

For the Consultant, Quantitative Wildlife Ecologist position, the anticipated annual base pay is $69,867–$83,047 (CAD). Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are not bonus eligible).

We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, parental leave, medical, dental, vision, life, disability, AD&D insurance, 401(k) or RRSP/DPSP, and other applicable benefits to eligible employees.

Note

Bonuses, commissions, and other forms of additional compensation are not guaranteed and subject to the sole discretion of ERM and its policies and procedures.
