The Site HSE Coordinator is supporting all functions of the HSE team from bidding, preparation, drafting procedures and plans as well as active support on the execution of construction projects across Canada.

The incumbent will support our teams in ensuring a safe work environment for all. They will be working as part of a project team of Project Manager, Installation Coordinators, Commercial Manager etc.

The role is a mix of office planning and preparation of documentation for the work and, on site work to ensure full compliance of projects.

The following responsibilities form the core of this role :

  • Ensures fulfillment of HSE requirements at construction site, following health, safety, and environmental (HSE) plan in compliance with Company standards, customer requirements and Government regulations;
  • Supports Site team for HSE management and safety instructions implementation for our workers and partners;

Below, are listed the principal duties for this role :

  • Support the implementation of the HSE Management System on all projects and across all departments within the organization;
  • Collaborate with project teams to prepare weekly and monthly statistics HSE reports;
  • Provides assistance in identification of risks and definition of control measures (through safe work procedure, Job Safety Analysis);
  • Carries out and records regular safety checks and safety inspections across the project portfolio;
  • Provides assistance in preparing Weekly Safety Meetings, HSE Bulletins, Focus initiatives;
  • Supports the investigation of accidents and incidents; performs Root Cause Analysis on HSE issues;
  • Provides introduction training and site specific health, safety, and environmental training;
  • Coordinates required safety training for project sites (as applicable);
  • Prepares and coordinates emergency and rescue drills, First Aid, Confined Space, Emergency Preparedness and Fire Protection programs;
  • Proposes immediate correction of a HSE deficiency; checks if HSE corrections from deficiency are effective;
  • Ensures OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and COR programs are maintained at site;
  • Support execution of internal audits in construction sites and facilities and coordinate external audits;
  • Coordinates with Workers Compensation as required;
  • Collaborates with Site HSE Officer as applicable;
  • Collaborates with HSE Operations Manager for business update on HSE Management System.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an active HSE position;
  • University degree in Health and Safety or equivalent;
  • Knowledge of Construction Safety Regulations;
  • Experience in dealing with unionized environment;
  • Experience working on construction sites ( Hydro power plant a strong asset );
  • Strong communication skills (spoken & written) at all levels of the organization;
  • Leadership skills, Team Player following Company common Goals;
  • Proven Auditor and Trainer skills;
  • Excellent problem solving skills (root cause analysis expertise), sound judgment, initiative & creativity;
  • Willingness to travel and flexible with work schedule.
