Your opportunity:

The Research Coordinator will work closely with the academic principal investigator and community principal investigators from a downtown housing provider on the project titled: “Culture in Movement: The management and Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes”. This intervention study is focused on improving the health outcomes associated with pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes. The Research Coordinator is expected to manage administrative research activities.

As a Research Coordinator and working with the Principal Investigator you will manage/review study documents; and review or edit study reports and presentations. You will also work closely to manage and edit communication with research team members, partners, and stakeholders, by serving as the point of contact for research projects; monitor the research study to ensure quality and achievement of expected timelines and deliverables; and assist with other aspects of study management. Your strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills will be critical to your success in this role.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Fostering positive relationships with project partners
  • Scheduling day-to-day project activities
  • Resolving issues within the scope of the role and escalating problems as required
  • Maintaining project records
  • Checking that projects adhere to ethical and privacy requirements
  • Coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items
  • Tracking and monitoring research activities
  • Recording or verifying transactions on a single account

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, or similar, or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years of directly related and demonstrated experience in coordinating large-scale research studies
  • Experience working directly with community agencies in the conduct of community-based research
  • Demonstrated experience working with marginalized and/or racialized populations
  • Experience coordinating research projects and knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
  • Demonstrated experience fostering positive relationships with multiple groups including internal and external interest-holders and community partners
  • Excellent working knowledge of PC platforms (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Access)
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communications skills (oral and written) with an ability to multi-task and prioritize competing demands
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong commitment to accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work under time constraints, workload pressures; managing conflicting priorities and deadlines despite regular interruptions
  • Must show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment


Assets (Nonessential):

  • Experienced working directly with Indigenous populations or organizations
  • Understanding data management and data governance principles
  • Training in cultural safety and/or humility
  • Experienced in strength-based reporting
  • Experience completing Research Ethics Board (REB) applications and editing content for grant applications highly desirable
