Park Maintenance Workers (Athabasca District)

Position : Park Maintenance Worker 1, 2, and 3 (MSW1, MSW2, MSW3)

Location : Athabasca District – Long Lake, Cross Lake, North Buck Lake

Type : Full‑time (temporary seasonal, 40 hrs per week)

  • Salary : MSW1 $23.11 - $26.00; MSW2 $24.80 - $30.36; MSW3 $26.18 - $32.08 per hour
  • Benefits : 11.6% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave; 5.6% lieu for holidays; 6% lieu for vacation pay; shift premium – $3.25 weekends / holidays, $2.75 evenings

Role Responsibilities

All positions : work various shifts including evenings, weekends & holidays; 40 hrs / week; manual work outdoors in all weather.

MSW1 Duties

  • Lawn maintenance and minor repairs of facilities.
  • Perform routine custodial and cleaning duties.
  • Respond to in‑person requests for information on area amenities.
  • Routine and preventative maintenance on infrastructure, vehicles and equipment.
  • Complete trail and signage projects.
  • Report maintenance concerns.
  • Follow Occupational Health & Safety policies and Facility Emergency Response Plan.
  • Administrative tasks : timesheets, expense claims, paperwork, online courses.
  • MSW2 Duties

  • Assist and perform MSW1 duties.
  • Conduct trail maintenance projects.
  • Maintain roads and parking lot areas.
  • Assist with playground inspections and maintenance.
  • Install / remove docks, maintain beaches.
  • Operate heavy equipment (loaders, graders, garbage trucks, etc.).
  • Operate chainsaws, brush saws and other high‑risk equipment.
  • Assist with water / wastewater system start‑up / shutdown and operation.
  • MSW3 Duties

  • Lead crew of MSW staff; direct site operations and schedule tasks.
  • Lead trail crews where applicable.
  • Assist in formal inspections, maintenance and servicing of equipment.
  • Conduct purchasing and orders of supplies within budget.
  • Assist with staff training and performance reviews.
  • Support operation of drinking water and wastewater systems per standards.

  • Education and Experience

  • MSW1 : Some high school education; experience equivalence 1 yr per yr education.
  • MSW2 : Some high school education, 1 yr related experience; equivalence as above.
  • MSW3 : Some high school education, related training, 2 yrs related experience; equivalence as above.
  • Additional Requirements

  • Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent & Driver’s Abstract.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C / AED Certificate.
  • Additional Assets

  • Experience with hand and power tools; knowledge of small equipment safety.
  • Experience in custodial, landscaping, or similar positions.
  • Chainsaw certification.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to handle difficult customer interactions.
  • Terms of Employment

  • Position start / end : early May‑September 2026.
  • Need reliable transportation.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License required.
  • Commercial Driver’s Abstract may be required for final candidates.
  • Uniform policy adherence; PPE provided.
  • Outdoor work in all weather.
  • Mandatory training late April / early May 2026.
