Job description

Overview

Hexagon Autonomous Solutions is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Global Operations team. As a leader in engineering and technology, we are committed to developing innovative solutions that drive meaningful changes. In this integral role, you will be a key driver in developing, implementing, and optimizing world‑class manufacturing solutions for our cutting‑edge electronic enclosure products.

In this highly collaborative position, you will be the bridge between Product Development, Manufacturing Process Engineering, and our Global Manufacturing Sites. You will define and own the manufacturing process from start to finish, architecting Process Flow Diagrams, leading PFMEAs, and creating robust Control Plans. You will also collaborate with Product Development to design custom mechanical parts by analyzing part manufacturability, understanding supplier capabilities, and developing inspection criteria. Finally, you will be responsible for designing, verifying, and validating assembly fixtures and jigs as part of your world‑class manufacturing solution.

The Manufacturing Process Development team's goal is to deliver complete manufacturing solutions that exceed customer expectations for Product Quality and Delivery.

The Location: Hexagon is a global company with locations worldwide. This position is based in Calgary, AB.

Responsibilities

As a member of the Manufacturing Process Development team, the Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for the following:

  • Spearhead Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews, collaborating directly with Product Development Engineers and Production teams to optimize new product manufacturability and reduce assembly complexity.
  • Develop and implement end‑to‑end (dock‑to‑dock) manufacturing solutions, owning key deliverables such as Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEAs, Control Plans, and other PPAP documentation.
  • Design, source, build, and validate robust assembly fixtures, jigs, and tooling essential for a high‑quality, repeatable manufacturing process.
  • Work with our supply chain and Product Development engineers to conduct rigorous Design for Manufacturability (DFM) analyses on custom mechanical parts, ensuring supplier capabilities align with our design requirements.
  • Execute First Article Inspections (FAI) on custom components to formally validate supplier processes and part compliance.
  • Conduct Prototype and Pilot builds to validate new manufacturing processes, leveraging data‑driven insights to proactively identify and resolve assembly challenges, refine product design, and validate process capability before mass production.
  • Act as a key technical liaison to our Manufacturing Support team, applying structured problem‑solving to troubleshoot and resolve production challenges identified by our frontline teams.
  • Drive a culture of Continuous Improvement and act as a key advocate for Lean Manufacturing principles, applying them to optimize assembly, design, and business processes.

Qualifications

Must‑Have:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Technical Diploma in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience in a high‑tech electronics or electromechanical manufacturing environment.
  • Proven track record in developing, launching, and supporting new manufacturing processes for complex products.
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical design (preferably fixtures, jigs, or tooling) and conducting process validation.
  • Strong analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to use data to inform decisions, drive root‑cause analysis, and influence cross‑functional teams.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with an ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Superior communication skills, encompassing technical writing (reports, validation protocols, work instructions), and formal presentations.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite and 3D CAD software (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks).
  • Ability to support international travel for up to one week at a time, approximately once per quarter.

Key Success Factors

  • A confident, adaptable self‑starter who excels both independently and as a collaborative member of a cross‑functional team, knowing when to seek input.
  • A natural, hands‑on problem‑solver with meticulous attention to detail and a passion for debugging complex manufacturing issues.
  • A proactive mindset, consistently identifying and acting on opportunities for process and product improvement.
  • Data‑driven, comfortable using metrics and statistical analysis to facilitate collaborative decision‑making.
  • Highly motivated by complex challenges and thrives in a dynamic, fast‑paced R&D and manufacturing environment.

Nice‑to‑Have

  • Quality and auditing training or certification.
  • Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) knowledge and experiences.
  • Proficiency in Creo CAD software.
  • Demonstrated experience with Lean Manufacturing principles (Lean bronze or Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) certification).
  • Demonstrated practical application of advanced Lean tools (e.g., Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, 5S).
  • Direct experience with IATF 16949 standards and executing the full PPAP (Production Part Approval Process).
  • Expertise in structured problem‑solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys, A3, Fishbone).
