Prevention and Awareness Coordinator

The Naomi Society is seeking a dynamic and compassionate Prevention and Awareness Coordinator to lead community education and outreach initiatives aimed at eliminating gender-based violence and violence against women. In this impactful role, you will work closely with staff and community partners to raise awareness about gender-based violence, deliver educational sessions focused on prevention, and foster community engagement to build safer, more informed communities across Antigonish and Guysborough Counties.We're looking for someone with a strong background in social services, education, or communications who brings creativity, empathy, and a deep understanding of the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence. Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Prevention and Awareness Coordinator plays a key role in advancing the Naomi Society's mission to prevent and respond to gender-based violence. This position is responsible for developing and delivering educational programming, raising public awareness, and fostering community partnerships that support inclusive, trauma-informed approaches to violence prevention.Key responsibilities include : Work with the Board & Staff to implement recommendations of the National Action Plan to End Gender Based Violence and other national and provincial inquiriesDevelop, implement and deliver education and preventative education sessionsAttend community events and festivals to promote the importance of building and sustaining healthy relationshipsBuild community relationships within Antigonish and Guysborough County that promote inclusivity to improve service offeringsEngage with the community around the supports and services offered by Naomi SocietyEngage community members in a traumatic and culturally sensitive way, providing referrals to Support Workers or other community agencies when necessaryResearch new and innovative ways to engage the communityProvide administrative support to Executive Director as required andConduct other duties as directed by the Executive Director

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or diploma in social services, social sciences, counselling, marketing or equivalent combination of training and expertiseA minimum of 2-years' experience in a related field with a strong understanding of the dynamics of domestic, family, intimate partner and sexual violenceKnowledge of the justice system and local community supports networks, resources, & agenciesProficiency in the development, implementation and facilitation of educational sessions and presentationsStrong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint), Google Workspace (Gmail, Doc, Calendar & Slides) and CanvaStrong communication, organizational, and time management skillsWillingness to travel regularly within Guysborough & Antigonish Counties and to other areas of the province on occasion (mileage compensated)Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and clear background checks (Vulnerable Sector & Child Abuse Registry)
