ABOUT THE FIRM

Secretariat professionals are trusted in the highest‑stakes legal, risk, and regulatory matters around the world.

When you join Secretariat, you become part of a rapidly growing elite team of bright minds and passionate problem‑solvers. Your skills and expertise will be utilized on day one – working with the world’s most renowned law firms, leading corporations, and influential institutions to answer complex questions that shape critical financial, economic, and strategic business decisions.

Our globally integrated teams are united by the ambition, energy, and commitment they bring to every challenge. We inspire and empower an open, collaborative culture that embraces ongoing professional development, recognition, diversity, and – most importantly – you.

Make your impact at Secretariat.

ABOUT OUR DAMAGES & VALUATIONS TEAM

As part of our expanding Damages & Valuations team, you will join a select group of the world’s foremost experts and advisors. The facts prove it. We are ranked #1 in Global Arbitration Review’s prestigious Expert Witness Firm Power Index for 2025, and over 90% of our testifying experts are recognized as leading experts by Lexology (previously Who's Who Legal).

We are a collaborative team of experienced accountants, economists, PhDs, certified business valuators, investment analysts, and industry specialists – all working together to address the most complex litigation and strategic commercial questions no matter the industry or global location.

As part of our continued growth in Canada, our Damages & Valuations practice is expanding into Montreal. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) to join our team at the Director level. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven professional to build and lead our Montreal presence, develop a strong book of business, and play a key role in growing the practice. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with our construction teams in Montreal and Toronto, as well as our damages team in Toronto, delivering exceptional client service and innovative valuation solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Exceptional analytical skills, solid quantitative training, remarkable communication skills, and creativity are the foundation for successful professionals at Secretariat. Successful candidates will join an expanding domestic and international business valuation and damages quantification practice. Our team works on large and complex commercial damages matters involving misappropriations of assets, post‑acquisition disputes, forensic accounting investigations, and a myriad of other domestic and international disputes. These cases will give successful candidates exposure to unique, complex, interesting issues, often integrating finance, accounting, economics, and legal principles.

We offer competitive compensation and benefits, and we support the continuing professional development of our employees.

  • Collaborate with team members in conducting economic, financial, accounting, and industry research
  • Analyze financial and non‑financial information, and discuss findings with other team members
  • Prepare valuation, damages, and forensic accounting reports
  • Prepare critique reports examining the conclusions of other experts
  • Communicate with clients and counsel
  • Prepare for and attend hearings, trials, and mediations
  • Manage the day‑to‑day requirements of multiple engagements
  • Engage in various business development efforts

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requisite professional designations and work experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or similar, from an accredited university or college
  • 8+ years of prior experience in economic damages and/or forensic accounting
  • Prior experience at one of the ‘Big Four’ accounting firms would be an asset
  • Holder of CBV designation
  • Holder of CPA, CFA also preferred
  • Must be bilingual in French & English
  • Potential and interest to develop a practice in disputes; prior experience in litigation support strongly preferred
  • Strong expert report writing skills to complement analytics
  • Able to quickly assimilate relevant information in unfamiliar situations and develop creative approaches and solutions necessary to resolve complex problems
  • The ability to manage and prioritize your time and your team’s time, potentially against a backdrop of competing deadlines
  • The ability to manage team members, both junior and senior, as well as external stakeholders
  • Excellent listening, verbal, written, technical, and presentation skills
  • The desire to join in with, and/or lead, auxiliary tasks and business development activities associated with a growing practice within a rapidly growing firm
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Excel and PowerPoint
  • The ability to travel as needed
  • Authorized to work in Canada without need for sponsorship

A rewarding career above all

There are a lot of fine consulting firms out there. But when everything is on the line, it takes a unique combination of skill and savvy to succeed under pressure.

Our culture and people are driven by passion, pride, and performance. Passion for the clients we serve, the work we deliver, and the communities we live in. Pride in our cohesive team recognized for excellence and trusted to perform in the most challenging situations. And our track record of outstanding performance across all of our disciplines speaks for itself.

Our people are motivated to be the best in everything they do – from our approach to making the complex simple to the way we mentor our up‑and‑coming talent to become trusted experts early in their careers.
