Aircraft Rescue Fire CHIEF (ARFF)

Canadian Base Operators' Moose Jaw Team is recruiting for a permanent Aircraft Rescue Fire Chief (ARFF) position. If you are committed and collaborative professional looking to contribute to a hard-working, innovative team, this opportunity is for you.

Our Team of professional Firefighters is proud to support Canada's Royal Canadian Air Force and Aviators during their time at CFB Moose Jaw 2 Canadian Forces Flying Training School. Our team specializes in crash fire rescue response for (2) primary aircraft : CT-156 Harvard II and the CT-114 Tutor (Canadian Snowbird 431 Air Demonstration Squadron). We provide fire inspection and support services for 15 Wing as a component of our regular duties. Our team currently operates on a 2-Platoon system, with each Platoon working a 7 day on 7 day off rotation schedule with 12 hour days (except for Sunday which is an 8 hour day), this is subject to change if operationally required

Statement of Duties - Job Description

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Site Manager, the Fire Chief supervises full time Fire Fighters. The Fire Chief is responsible for the maintenance of Category 3 crash rescue response during flying hours. This includes but not limited to, responsibility for daily training and exercises, the operational readiness of the fire vehicles and on-board equipment and the maintenance of an adequate inventory of consumable stores. The Fire Chief is also responsible for hazardous material spill standby response and standby and the CBO health and safety program.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform inspections, testing, maintenance, repairs, and tasks generated by the CMMS and as required by regulatory standards.
  • Supervises Firefighter staff.
  • Prepares and executes firefighter training program.
  • Responds and exercises Command and Control at airfield emergency situations and hazardous material spills when required.
  • Investigates accidents and hazardous conditions when necessary.
  • Maintains inventory of consumables and material for firefighting and spill cleanup.
  • Advises on Life Safety and National Building Code / National Fire Code aspects of proposed facility alterations when requested.
  • Ensures site personnel are familiar with requirements for safe storage and handling of hazardous materials.
  • Assists other trades in briefing subcontractors on fire and aerodrome safety when required.
  • Participates in daily fitness training program.
  • Record all emergencies / responses on DND Integrated Fire Service Management System (IFSMR).
  • Manages, schedules, and maintains records of Inspection, Testing and Maintenance (ITM) of all fire alarm and suppression systems for the entire Wing.
  • Issues hot work permits.
  • Inspects, recharges, and maintains handheld fire extinguishers of all classes.
  • Water distribution system ITM.
  • Administrative duties.
  • Leads, supports, and participates in CBO's Safety Program, HSE and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Leads, supports and participates in CBO's Quality Management program in accordance to ISO 9001.
  • Is responsible to maintain a high level of security while performing and executing their scope of work.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and repair of all tools and equipment, and
  • Other duties as assigned within the capabilities of the individual.

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Fire Inspector level 1 (NFPA 1031).
  • Firefighter Level II (NFPA 1001).
  • Fire Officer level III and National Fire Protection Association standard (NFPA) 1035, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Public Fire and Life Safety Educator, 2000 level I.
  • Fire Apparatus Driver Operator (NFPA 1002).
  • Airport Fire Fighter (NFPA 1003).
  • Standard First Aid and CPR A.
  • CARS Re-certification Live Fire Training participate annually.
  • 3-5 years of firefighting / management experience in the aviation industry an asset.
  • WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must pass a medical examination, Drug and Alcohol test.
  • Proficient use of computers and MS Office.
  • Familiar in hazardous material spill cleanup procedures for storing and handling hazardous materials is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Must have and maintain a minimum of a valid Class 5 driver's learners' license.
  • Able to obtain Radio Operator and Airside Vehicle Operator Permit.
  • Annual Live Fire & Medical Certifications.
  • Annual Physical Fitness Maintenance Program.
  • Must obtain an Enhanced Reliability Clearance from the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate.
