What this role is all about :

The Commercial Underwriter is a key resource in Beem’s Commercial Lending team, supporting the team’s business growth and maintenance as well as the overall member experience. The incumbent is responsible for reviewing and analyzing commercial lending deals in accordance with regulations and best practices to maximize member satisfaction while minimizing risk to the organization. The incumbent also collaborates with the Commercial team as well as other department and branch employees to support Beem’s business and overall organizational objectives.

This role will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Burnaby Corporate office or at our Kelowna Corporate Office. Responsibilities

  • Delivers loan products and services; collects and prepares documentation for credit applications and conducts initial financial analysis to determine appropriate debt terms with Commercial Account Managers.
  • Reviews and prepares documentation for loan agreements and commitment letters and as required for progress draws.
  • Conducts annual credit reviews and prepares administrative reports and market research.
  • Prepares and follows up with member correspondence and inquiries.
  • Ensures lending and collection compliance; assists with lending audit reviews and follow-up actions.
  • Fulfils credit monitoring and compliance requirements including analysis of reports and financial statements.
  • Supports pre-funding due diligence and security documentation completion and follow-up.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities for retail and commercial sales and referrals.

A little about your qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in finance, commerce or business administration
  • years’ experience in the financial industry including lending and / or loans administration
  • Commercial banking and lending experience is preferred; experience with Real Estate / Land / Construction loans is a strong asset
  • Knowledge of accounting / financial analysis and credit principles
  • Proactive nature with the ability to identify business development opportunities
  • Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills and sound judgment abilities
