Structural Engineer

Job Description

Our large client is looking for a Civil/Structural Project Engineer with a who is well versed in concrete engineering. The Structural Project Engineer is responsible for technical leadership as well as oversight and production of Engineering deliverables for internal and external customers. Engineering deliverables include feasibility and conceptual assessments, design scope of work documents, detailed designs, necessary calculations and analysis, design reviews, construction support documents such as Field Instructions and inspection reports, and closeout support via production of record artifacts.

The Structural Project Engineer will be part of a project team that works on downtown network, substations, distribution and transmission projects. The projects that this engineer will work on will range from man hole designs (cables run through here in downtown calgary) as well as Duct banks (big underground vaults that house cables and electrical cables), and foundations for substations. The Structural engineer will need to do designs in house and will typically use the bridge engineering design codes to compare their designs to in terms of standards. This engineer will be asked as well to review the designs of design consultants and companies that might be called in to do work.

This role will be responsible for multiple projects from the scoping stage through design, construction and completion of records. The Structural Project Engineer will define solutions to technical challenges in collaboration with stakeholders and provide guidance to external consultants. All technical deliverables will be reviewed by other Structural Project Engineers or the Team Lead.

Essential Skills

• 5+ years exp as a structural/civil engineer
• in civil/structural engineering
• Design experience and ability/willingness to do design (they will be expected to stamp)
• Understanding and experience of road or bridge construction (this is because the majority of all man hole design and duct banks will happen under roadways)
• Experience working with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers (electrical and other civil/structural)
• Sound knowledge of civil standards and codes, strongly preferred is the Bridge codes
• or . Eng status with The Association of Professionals in Engineering and Geoscience in Alberta (APEGA)
• Past experience working with EPC firms to coordinate their design efforts
• Past experience reviewing construction Requests for Information and consult with required parties
• Extensive experience with reinforced concrete assessment, design and repair is preferred.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bridge design code (Knowledge and use of CSA S6:19 Canadian Highway Bridge Code and RISA structural design software is preferred)
• Experience with reinforced concrete design is considered a strong asset.
• High level of knowledge of industry codes and standards
• Past city utility civil/structural design exp.

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.
