Job descriptionCompleted or currently enrolled in a post‑secondary emergency management program. Experience in emergency management, emergency support services, or inventory management is an asset. Proficient with MS Excel and MS Word. Able to lift 30 pounds without assistance. Class 5 or 7 BC Driver’s license. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work accurately and with great attention to detail. Capacity to multi‑task and work independently with minimal supervision. Preference given to candidates aged 15‑30 per Canada Summer Jobs Program, but other applicants may be considered.
Overview
Emergency Management Assistant with the Emergency Management Cowichan division for summer 2026. Reporting to the Manager of Emergency Operations & Planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage inventory : restocking, entering items into a database, and physically moving items between storage locations.
- Update contact lists and complete related paperwork.
- Support emergency management activities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Duration & Compensation
This temporary position is 17 weeks long, commencing May 4 2026 and ending August 28 2026, subject to funding.
Hours : 35 h per week (Monday‑Friday, with possible evening and weekend work).
Unionized (CUPE Local 358). Salary : $25.32 per hour, with 14.5 % in lieu of benefits, statutory holidays, and vacation, bringing total compensation to $28.99 per hour (2025 wage rates).
